TIRED OF WINTER

On another note, I just got bifocals last night and I hate them. My guess is I'll hate them when it gets warm, too. They are the invisible line type, the ones that you can't tell if they are bifocals. I can't see out my rear view mirrors or see my instrument panel without taking my eyes completely off the road. Completely dangerous and completely worthless. Reminds me of being drunk and looking through fish eye lens. Very narrow field of view. They said things might be a little blurry out of the sides, but this is awful. I have to turn my head and look directly at things, then tilt my head up and down to find the focus spot. No peripheral vision at all. AAARRGH!!!!

MossRoad you may want to check on blended, graduated bifocals. I have them and they are much more forgiving, especially in front of a monitor or while driving.

Well Bird if you think it was bad yesterday you'll think you've died and went to hades today. They're talking high seventies with lots of wind this afternoon.

Snow on Saturday, almost eighty the following Thursday, it's almost like heaven, life here in Texas.

Moss Road. What's your address? They say sight is the second thing to go. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

About fifteen years ago I noticed a shortening of my arms. I went to the doctor and he told me that for distance the only thing he could do for me was give me a pair of binoculars. But for reading I needed glasses.

The first hundred and fifty dollar pair got broken real quick like. I've been buying, losing, breaking, generally destroying reading glasses ever since. I'm down or up to 1.75 dioplar ones now.

I wasn't wanting your address for myself you understand. It's the young studs you have to worry about. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hee hee. That's one of those comments that I can't defend myself against! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Life is cruel. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Sad part about the glasses is, I can see from about 2 feet out to infinity with my current prescription. It's the close up stuff I can't see. So I go the the eye doc and he says I need bifocals. Almost $400.00 later, I can still see from 2 feet to infinity, but like looking through a foggy tunnel. And the field of focus on the bifocal area at a foot from my nose is about an inch wide. So, last night I'm waiting in line at the Walgreens and see a rack of $10.00 magnifiers. I pops on a pair of +175 and everything close up is crystal clear!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Anybody got a pair of large boots that I can borrow to kick myself with? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I go back to the eye doctor today.... grrrrrr /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I took them back yesterday and explained that while wearing them I had no peripheral vision, could not see the ground where I was walking and frequently bumped into walls. She said, "Mm hmm, mm, hmm... that's right. You'll get use to it." I asked, "Before or after I kill myself or somebody else in a car wreck?". Her reply, "Maybe you aren't ready for bifocals yet." I'm getting new lenses with the regular prescription for normal vision and no bifocals. I'll use the drugstore ones for the close up stuff.

Weather today... rain and 40s. Ice will be damaged beyond fishable if this keeps up like they say it will! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Do not know what kind they are, but when you look at them, you cannot tell that they are bifocals. However, there was no problem adjusting to them at all, once in a while you have to tilt the head a little to get a little clearer view of something. Have had them close to two years and sure better than just plain glasses.

Dave,

I had the same problem when I got my bifocals. But as Bird said, you get used to them. I've got the "regular" kind with the line. I tried the no line bifocals and went absolutely nuts. After trying them, it was a snap to get used to the line bifocals.

Of course, my optometrist is having a lot of fun with me. He knows that I don't wear my glasses when I play golf. I don't really need them, and I can't use to tipping my head at odd angles to be able to see to putt. But every time I have an appointment, he tells me that I'm going to need TRI focals some day, and then I'll have to wear the glasses, even to play golf! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I ask him if he's sure I'll need trifocals, and he says, "Sure I'm sure. I'm the optometrist!" /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Back on topic, I've attached a picture that shows how much our citizens want winter to be over too! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Great picture! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll try the cheapo reading glasses for the close up stuff for a year. Then, next year, when my insurance catches up, I'll try the normal, lined bifocals. What bugs me is when I went back to turn in the no line bifocals, I ask them why don't they have a test pair around to show people the difference between the two styles of bifocals, instead of just the paper charts and diagrams that they showed me. The optician looks at me like I'm nuts, then aks the rest of the staff where is the bifocal demo unit, or something like that. She comes back with a pair of each, lined and no lined for me to test. GGGRRRrrrrr!!! I guess it is my own fault for not asking, in this day and age. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif They are making me new lenses at no cost, at least, so I WON"T COMPLAIN TOO MUCH! HEE HEE.

Our predicted rain turned in to snow last night, so we got about 2" of wet stuff. No fun driving in it last night. Had to take my 11 year old to play in a basketball game that ended at 7:30, then drive her up into Michigan about an hour and a half away to Girl Scout camp for the weekend. Got home about 10:30. Roads were slick and wind was very strong out of the SW, so no matter what roads I got on, it blew my van all over the place. The 6 year old went along for the ride because mom was already up at camp. She was asleep 5 minutes after I left camp, so I had a quiet drive home. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Got 5 minutes of seat time in this morning plowing snow. Spent most of the day playing with the 6 year old. Went out for ribs for dinner. Played a game of checkers. That little stinker had me on the run. She plays very agressively /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Remember the smaller the frames/lenses, the worse it is to get used to. You have a smaller portion of the regular lens to see out of. I have the no-line bifocals in a rather small lens. I did have trouble seeing the ground and peripheral vision was BAD. But I did get used to them in a few days.

Yeah. I have giant glasses right now. They are great because no matter where you look or how you turn your head, everything is in focus. However, they are so big that they are starting to rub my cheeks and make lines. My face is much fatter than it was when I got them(not the rest of me, of course, just my face), so it is time to downsize the lenses a bit. If I could just bring myself to tell some lies and stretch my nose I could just wear them out on my nose a little further and they wouldn't rub my cheeks anymore. But I can't do that because I am one of the few honest fishermen out there.... OOPS>>>> OUCH!!! Hey, my glasses don't rub my cheeks anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Relating this back to the topic of the thread, I find that the large lenses also tend to fog up in the winter easier. I think that between my hat and cheeks sealing off the lenses, there is no room for air movement and they fog up. I frequently have to take them off when operating the tractor in very cold weather. Same thing with skiing or fishing.
