As other said "mow it" down than let it grow 6"+- for regular height...maybe light dose of fertilizer.

If you mow it before the seed heads form, there will be less opportunity for the weeds to spread.

Use rotational grazing and you only have to mow the weeds. Mow at 4 inches. The duration of the rotation depends on where you are, rainfall, temp and time of the year. Takes care of mowing problems and weeds too.
