Here is an update on my toothbar plans.

Before welding up RR spikes on a section of cutting edge, I am considering cannibalizing an old sickle bar mower that I dragged out of the woods today. The mower has a MM plate and a 7’ bar. My plan is to cut off a 54” section and bolt it directly to the bottom surface of the existing cutting edge on my Gehl skid loader. I am considering cutting internal threads on the sickle bar and running hex head bolts down from above.

Your comments are appreciated.

I will plan to post a picture when done.

As long as the mower is 'beyond salvation'.. I'd say that's a good idea.. blade guards.

You could also use plow bolts.. or carriage bolts.. plow bolts would / could be flush with some drilling and or filing.

I've sucsesfully installed cariage bolts by drilling a hole that will almost accomodate the square sub head, and then filing it out to fit..

OldJD,
Here's a photo of the toothbar I made for my 72" bucket. I used a piece of 1/2" x 4" cutting edge and some 1" x 1" tempered bar stock with one end cut on 45's for the shanks. The teeth are bolt on skid loader teeth. Total cost of the project was $120, with the biggest expense being the 72" cutting edge @$60 . This bar wasn't used much yet but I made another one exactly like it for my B2150 when I had it and it worked great. If you take notice, this bar is mounted on top of my present bucket cutting edge. This makes the bottom of the teeth approx. 3/4" off the ground surface. I made it this way because I do alot of work on macadam roadways and this way I can put my bucket at a level position and scrape ground off the road with out having the teeth dig in leaving grooves on the roadway. The 2 center bolts on the cutting edge are plow share bolts and are countersunk into the bottom of the bucket cutting edge for a flush fit.
