AMEN Roy!!!

#1 in my book too.

VADM John D. Bulkeley was a honest to goodness real HERO and the movie does a credible job of telling part of his life's story. Even though I spent most of my Navy career as an Airdale, I've always considered Admiral Bulkeley as one of the Navy's truest WARRIORs. Too bad John Wayne didn't play his part instead of Robert Montgomery.

Incidentally, Gen Eisenhower brought him over to Europe to be a part of the Normandy Invasion.

I don't know....I think Montgomery (who was in the Navy during WW II) provided the maturity and leadership the role demanded.
I thought this great movie was perfectly cast....of course, neither of us can second guess the director, John Ford!

I was also an aviation rate during my Naval service.

Shawshank is one of my favorite movies. I was very disappointed when Gump won all/most of the awards instead of Shawshank.

Shawshank is a Stephen King novella. He published a book with Shawshank and two other stories back in the late 80s I think. When I read the story and got to the ending the hair was standing on my neck for some reason. You just soooo badly wanted to know what happened at the end of the story.

The movie is as good as the novella. After the movie I watched and listened to people as we left the theater. Their reaction was just like mine from reading the story. Its one of the few books to movies where the movie was just as good as the written word.

Later,
Dan

In no particular order and depending on my mood.

Aliens
By Dawn's Early Light
The Hunt for Red October
Saving Private Ryan
Red Dawn
The Shawshank Redemption
Serenity
Million Dollar Baby
The Silence of the Lambs
Forrest Gump

You listed "Red Dawn". Man I love that movie. Ironically, it was the last movie I watched just days before I left for Navy bootcamp in August of 1984! What a "motivating" movie to see before basic training!!!

Thanks for listing it, seeing the title brought back memories and reminded me of younger days. I think I'm going to buy it!

Same for Stand by me.

Also I, robot is based on Isaac Asimov. You can tell by the quality of the movie, there is a great book behind it.

Stand by me.
While this move was not specifically listed as a top ten I think it should probably be in there somewhere, if for no other reason than when I saw it with my wife she said "boys don't really act like that do they?"
