3-Point Hitch Top link mount tore off back of differential case

cant see a backhoe on any compact tractor. 3 point or frame mount. Have read about multiple axle housings broken from a frame mount. 3 point a accident waiting to happen. its why a real backhoe is so darn big and heavy duty.

hopefully this helps someone else.

Sorry to see this... long time ago I bought a heavy duty top link, for a backhoe that I finally gave away (way too big). I left the HD toplink there just for the heck of it.

{EDIT} WOW, THERE IS NOT EVEN ANY PAINT RUBBED OFF THAT BUCKET... TEETH LOOK BRAND NEW....

More thoughts, that top link transfer all pressure, did you hit or bottom out the bucket when you were driving??

This is the sort of thing that it states in my Massey Ferguson manual that warranty is voided if after market back is added....

After you make the tractor repair, consider selling the 3pt backhoe. And if you really need a backhoe, then purchase a subframe mounted backhoe (BH77) from Kubota or rent one as needed. We all appreciate your candor and documentation of this unhappy event. It's a learning experience for all of us too. Best of success on the repair.

When I see some of the work guys do with these little BHs I am surprised there are not more failures.

I hope your repair goes smoothly. I would not trust a weld up job and I would never use that BH again unless I was sure I broke it doing something I should not have done.

I think thats one of down falls for Kubota, the top link is on the trans housing as appose to others that are on the top 3point lift hosing, which means this is a more costly repair. I thought Kubota did away with that 15 years ago and went with sub frame.

Berlin, I feel your pain. I was worried about my B7800 because I have one implement that is at the maximum weight at 2' from the pins, 1300lbs. The problem is that the weight is 5' from the pins and I was worried about the back of the case. I added 2 bars at the top and welded them to the pick up point and installed 2 bolts into a crossmember (Fig 1 & 2). I then welded a bottom bar and tied it to the 2 bolts at the bottom (Fig 3).

Sorry for your problem.

Kubota did go all sub frame for their BH years ago, thats a Woodmaxx aftermarket BH.

When Kubota did offer a factory 3pt BH if was very limited in capacity for the size tractor and required a reinforcing bracket for the top link mount on the tractor.

Wondering if anyone has experienced (prefer first hand; happened to your tractor) a top link mount being torn off the case of your tractor (any model or make).

I have a 2016 Kubota L3901 with approximately 84 hours and a 3 point (formerly) mounted WoodMaxx 7600 backhoe attached.

I am now aware that some recommend against mounting backhoes with 3 point hitches.

Thanks for any feedback and replies.

Did this happen while trying to pull something out? The BH doesn't even looked used.

Did you accidently try to lift the 3pt with the BH attached?

Ouch. Makes me cringe. Good luck getting it fixed. A couple things I notice. I think this is beyond a weld repair. Can it be done? Most likely. Will it hold, depends on loading. Will you ever feel comfortable with running it at load? I would always be worried when I'd hit something with a shank or a mower that would stress the welded area and cause it to break. I'll also say that this does not look like a great casting to me. I see some thin wall sections like around the right side middle area. The way the bolt hole flange cracked and broke is crazy. And it looks like there was a crack along the lower surface that shows fatigue before fracture. Amazing what the new cameras can reveal with just a photo. If the dealer added the hoe for you, I'd certainly lean hard on them for free labor if not entire repair costs. If they didn't add the hoe, I would still try to ask the manufacturer to assist. However, that could be a long drawn out process. They are notoriously slow in response to these sorts of things and would likely attempt justify "no fault" due to the hoe. But worth a shot IMHO. Sometimes too the dealer will show mercy and make you pay for parts while they "absorb" the labor on a warranty claim.

It seems that the grain size on that casing is fairly large too......out of spec...doubtful. But for cast steel/iron in todays world, seems fairly granular. Assuming it's not Aluminum as I see some corrosion.

It’s granular because it was literally ripped in half. Tension failure causes granular looking characteristics.

These 3 point hoes should never be put on tractors. I don’t understand why this L3901 had a 3 point hoe on it when Kubota offers a very nice subframe mounted backhoe. BH77.

My condolences to the OP.
