You could install a hydraulic oil pressure meter.

I think this is the best next step for the money. That will really help troubleshoot what is going on.

Is this because you need full throttle to get enough power but then everything moves too fast
or are you thinking of the noise ?

To reduce noise and vibration.

A 10hp flathead thumper from B&S or Tecumseh is designed to run at 3600 RPM to make their rated power.
Super-loud, and the vibes have to be managed with rubber mounts. An OHV thumper is quieter. if
you need, say 10hp to get the pressure and flow you want, then a 16hp twin running slower than full
power is quieter by far.

I just loved my Yamaha 750 4-cyl for its smoothness and power. But keeping the oil temp down
even with 2 fans made me scrap it.

There is a reason why they run small engines at such high RPM's under a load you need the air flow from running at full throttle to cool the motor especially running a pump loading the motor or you run the risk of overheating it and doing serious damage to the motor. Even large equipment like Backhoes and Excavators run at higher RPM's to drive the pumps and make sure the torque is available when the pumps loads the motor when the bucket hooks onto something very heavy. The machine is smaller but the mechanics are the same the loads are just smaller plus you're using one or two cylinders instead of 4 or more on larger equipment to run the pump so it takes more RPM to keep the motor spinning because of the lacking rotational mass of a single or twin cylinder engine under maximum load.

If your loosing pressure when it gets warm, the pump is shot. Replace the pump??

So my next step is going to be to replace the pump any recommendations on what size and that will Work well with a 13 hp engine Thank you

These are the specs on mine. They may be helpful to see if we are talking apples and apples.

My pump is 2.788gpm and motor is 7hp at 4000rpm but it does not seem to increase digging power over 3/4 throttle.

The other variable is the face area of the piston in the cylinders.

A contractor did some digging in the backyard with a tractor mounted hoe that is about 1/2 again as large as my Dirt Master. He commented on hard the dirt was. It does not present any problem to my toy. I have had trouble with tree roots and others have commented it does not work well if you have a lot of rocks. For that reason it would be nice to have more pressure but I have no idea how much more the hoe would take without busting it up. Maybe the right thing to do is to put a beefier cylinder on the curl.

I opted for the joysticks with the hydraulic operated front stabilizers. I could live without the joysticks but you would have to pry the hydraulic stablizers out of my cold dead hands.

I have a bx2200 that I use with it. I am in the process of adding a ball hitch to the back of my box blade so I can back the ball under the backhoe hitch and move it without getting off the tractor. Together the FEL boxblade and hoe are good combo.

I added an electronic hour meter to make it easier to keep track of when it needs to be greased. If one used it all day you could just grease it when you start and at lunch. But I use it an hour here and an hour there. It was too easy to go longer.

What pressure is your system setup to run? at 7hp with 2.78gpm you could push 4000PSI and he may of only had 2250psi

6.25 ton force on a 2" 4000psi cylinder, compared to a 2.5" 2250psi giving 5.5 ton. On top of that longer booms will require more force to do the work.

The Linkbelt i ran uses 4995psi reliefs (61300lb Excavator) but could only lift ~.75 - 1 yard at max reach and had a ~60' reach. With dual 6" or so rams
The Kubota i ran uses 3988psi reliefs (18000lb Excavator) and can lift about the the same at ~19' reach with singe 5" or so ram
Reach measured from tip of track

I agree with the larger tank and a cooler sugestions.

I am following with interest as I just started my own BH project.

I had a similar condition with my FEL , it turned out to be belt slipping on the pump.
It never made a sound.

When first started it was fine then slowly it lost power. I would reverse peddle the pump which heated up the belt and it would take off like a rocket (so to speak).

Right before the belt went up in smoke it had full power then - poof.
At least then I knew where the problem was.
Just ordered double sheaves.

Best of luck on finding the problem.

Thanks for the reply I'm still having issues with that but I do not have a belt it is direct drive I really think it is something in my control valve I switched out the pump and it still is doing the same
