98 3RZ Has 1 chain from the crankshaft up to the intake cam.A gear on intake cam turns a gear on exhaust cam. A 2nd chain from crankshaft turns both balance shafts . same setup with a hyd. tensioner. As long as these engines have oil pressure you will in most cases never have a timing issue. It would take alot of doing to convince me that TOYOTA dosn't lead the industry in quality bumper ta bumper! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, my little Toy has a chain, I figure it is good for life or at least 300,000. I figure by then it will need a tune up anyway, huh? J

Mine was built in Japan. The A/C was installed in Houston, TX.
Don't know why they had a thing against installing A/C units in Japan.

Hmmm, Well the engine is made in Japan I think, guess I will have to check with some friends that work at the Toyota Plant in Georgetown, KY about any inported Camrys. Many smaller plants make components for the Camrys as well.

The AC is probably a thing about not knowing where the car is sold. If I still lived in the pacific NW I would not go to the expense/ HP/mileage loss of AC for 3 weeks use out of the year.

Not positive but I think the USA plant you refer to was built after the 1983 model Camrys were made, not sure just what year.

19" of snow on a gravel washboard.

38,000 dollar land rover vs. 13,000 dollar Taco.

It wasn't even close.

Guess who wins?

I expect a thread with this title will rival those about gun ownership for popularity /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Thought there would be more disagreement, though. I have had 4 Toyota trucks, counting one I bought to fix up for my daughter. Still have a '94 T100. Sold the earlier ones only because they were extra or we wanted something bigger. Have had about a dozen or so other vehicles, 10 different makes, 5 of those Japanese. The T100 has proven to be the most reliable so far. Would have bought the wife a Tacoma a few months ago, but couldn't find one equipped like we wanted, so we bought a Nissan instead. I wonder--how does the cost per unit of reliability for Toyotas compare with some of the others?

Don't mistake the lack of posts to the contrary as a wholesale agreement with the premise. Some people just don't want to get involved in yet another "Toyota rules the world" thread.
