Yep, Boone's right. I got a factory recall on my '93 T-100- - - it was running great so I didn't do anything about it. Well, right about 200k, sure enough the head gasket blew. Took it in to see if the recall still applied, & thank goodness, it was still covered. I had the dealer do a ring job while he was in there.
At 294k there are some things that are going to fail on me. I've never replaced the clutch, & I can occassionally tell that it does slip - - I'm not towing anythng these days. I'm sure that helps.
I drive it back & forth to work 3-4 times a week - about 54 miles one way. I try not to go over 75-80, but it still runs great. Maybe when/if I hit 300k I'll start looking for a new one.

Tres ... indeed it was the Taco. The rover was terrifc, but the ground clearance on the taco won the day.

Yeah DAP, the clearence is one of the things that the little Toy trucks have in spades. One guy at work told me the Land Rover was the King of Offroad vechicles--whatever---my Toy can go places it could not even begin to and do it in 2WD. The only thing that beats a Toy or small Nissan etc but especially the Toys off road are Jeeps and even them it can give a run for the money. Oh, before it starts, those behemoth whatevers including my Tundra are to big and to heavy and to long and way to wide and lack front and rear clearence and center clearence and sit to tall to ever begin to compete with a Toy in ROUGH going--read that as ROUGH, tight, tough going /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. That is why the Jeep is probably the real King of the Hill, a Land Rover--nah. J

Tres ... I'm talking about a STOCK Taco. A stock jeep (haven't checked out the Rubicon yet) is no match for a stock Taco.

And don't diss the Rovers too bad regarding off road performance. They are quite capable (especially the Defenders or Series II rovers). My Rover could only push so much snow outta the way. Mud, Rocks, angles, drivetrain, the Rovers are formidable to be sure.

The Taco, with manual hubs (they can be a PITA) succeeds despite the IFS. I see lottsa maniacs doing solid axle swaps on the Tacos these days.

I'm talking STOCK Taco though.

A stock jeep (haven't checked out the Rubicon yet) is no match for a stock Taco. 

Approach angle, Departure angle, HP, Torque, (both 4 & 6 cyl. models) and turning radius all go to Jeep (stock). Ground clearance goes to Tacoma.

Why do you say "no match?"

Toyota Tundra "big", "heavy", "long". It's the smallest truck I've had other then a 1972 Datsun 1600. The Tundra is a great truck, BUT, with any kind of load, it's flat out whimpy in terms of power and especially suspension. The V8 is great but I think the torque curve folows the HP curve. There is no torque to spare when the RPM goes down. Perhaps in Kansas this is not an issue, here in Northern California going up I-80 (7229 feet) or the Mt Rose highway at just over 8900 feet, it's huge. Without a load, I can fly, with a load (+/- 1400lbs cargo) it's weakness becomes all too apparent. A trailer uphill, same issue. On the other hand my old Ford 1993 F250 nonturbo diesel is even worse. I would like to investigate a Dodge with the quiet diesel or hope Toyota comes out with a diesel truck. I have had great dependability with both Datsun/Nissan and Toyota. Ford, so, so.

I do not agree at all. My point of view is that it's a shame that none of the Asian companies make a real truck.

Now before you jump on me:
1) I have owned a nissian pickup and it was a great little truck, with little being the key word.
2) I define real truck in comparison to my current ride; a dodge 3500 SRW with a turbo diesel.

What can any of the toyota trucks do that my 3500 can not?
How long will that tundra last pulling 14K lbs trailers at 70 mph?

Tundra and 3500 comparison:
Cost is about the same, maybe a little more for the dodge but marginal difference.
MPG is 15/18 for tundra , I get 15-20 in the 3500
load capabilites tundra is 1750 payload 7000 towing
3500 is ~4000 payload and 14500 towing /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Durability: probably get 200K miles out of the tundra and at least 200-300 K miles out of the cummings turbo diesel.

So the conclusion seems pretty clear to me.

"RAM TOUGH" isn't a RAM like a sheep

"LIKE A ROCK" decomposed granite

"Built FORD TOUGH" hmmm, you mean like Pintos, Mavericks and stuff

TOYOTA- hey that rear end is smaller then my VW, it's like a tinker toy-ota.

Durability of the engines etc., very impressive for them all.
