I just laugh at this anti Toyota and anti Jap stuff. Now it is Tundra Bashing --the vehicle that had the highest crash rating of all 1/2 ton PUs by far. That was not an accident.
Your going to have to have an American made Toyota next because they are going to all be built here. While GM and Ford are moving as fast as possible to build factories in Mexico and Canada and outsource everyhting Toyota is building factories here.
I talked to a fellow the other day that sells robotic equipment to Ford. He told he personally saw people sleeping on the job while being paid 30 dollars an hour or more. That is the UAW, I have no common ground with them and do not support their agenda.
Across the board Toyota makes some fine cars--you guys do not agree but someone does as they are now number 3 and they will soon surpass Ford for number 2. You will see. J

Tres ... the MOST interesting thing missing from these auto discussions is:

After WWII, the USofA decided to rebuild the japanese economy (fair is fair since we razed it anyway). Through governement procurement, the Ford Motor Co. sent hundreds of consultants, managers, tool and die, blueprints and managers there to show them how to build cars.

Not only did they pay attention, but they clearly improved on our knowledge base.

Beaten once again at our own game.

Wasn't so long ago that ANY foreign car was taboo here in the US. NOW it's "toyotas are good cars but ..... " blah blah blah.

The Japanese also listened to this guy, W. Edwards Deming. Since a lot of their industry was destroyed in WWII, they were, in essence, starting from scratch and had little, if any, corporate inertia to overcome.

Isn't he the robotics guy? The inventor of the solution to the 3 Ds. His work was determined to replace Dirty, Dumb and Dangerous work with something other than humans.

I did some research on him a long time ago. The upshot was he was at GM and tried to get the movers and shakers to fund his robotics for assembly lines. They told him to get lost. The workers knew he threatened their jobs (a misnomer).

He then went to Japan, and there were literally THOUSANDS of people waiting at the airport for his plane to land.

You're right, they paid attention to him - FIRST. Funny, those robots made it into the union shops later on.

I think that those working in remote locations where warranty work or non scheduled repair work is out of the question can teach us a few things about reliability. What vehicles does the UN and its agencies use in the Third World?

By the way, Toyota builds top notch products but one glove doesn't fit all.

Billy, I see it much as you do, some folks are more sensitive when their material identity is challenged. The only bashing I see is calling someone of Japanese decent a "Jap" That is considered derogatory. The coach of Dallas I believe it was just got hammered on it and had to apologize profusely. Just a little heads up.

As one who admits to owning a Ford truck and all the acroynms one can think of to denegrate it, I truly laugh and in fact, often join in.
