jd 790 27hp
26 acres of ornamental trees 'A 10 year row crop per field more or less'
27/26=1.03 hp per acre:D
Seems like minimal HP but most of the work is tilling, planting and harrowing the new planted field the summer of the first year. After that first year, most work is done with a blast sprayer that sprays a 60 ft. swath for insects once a month threw the summer. Plus some pre-emergant put down in the spring with the boom sprayer. Can blast spray everything in one day when all goes right. With the boom sprayer it differs because of the weather that time of year, but average two to three days. Have not felt under-gunned at all. Have felt a little sun burned at times.....

Case Tractor 50 HP (I think)

Kioti 41

Craftman 26

Troybuilts 8 + 6.5 = 14.5

One horse named Katie = 1hp

HP total: 132.5

Acres 8.6

15.4 per acre

I've never taken the time to really consider this question... maybe 'cause I'm beginning to wonder if all the "stuff" I've accumulated is getting to be "over-the-top"! :D

But.. for the sake of "analysis" --

JD 110 - 43hp
Ford 9N - 28hp (I think)
JD X300R - 17hp

88hp/30 acres = 2.9hp/acre

I included the X300R 'cause I use to fert, mow and spray weeds on the horse pastures as well as the 10 acre hay field (spray weeds).

I feel a lot better that I am not the only grossly overpowered participant or hobbyist:

JD 1435 re-powered from 24hp to 36hp.
JD 2320 24hp.
Bunton 17 kawasaki 54" walk-behind.
All squeezed into my 16X20 barn.

All on my half acre lot. (77hp) or 154 hp per acre.

With all this hp I spread the wealth and help my neighbors for a total of about 3 acres worth of land.

Do I win a prize?

GX 255 = 20 hp

3520 = 37.5 hp

Husky Chainsaw = 3.2 hp

26.97 hp per Acre

Guess I need some additional acreage?

geez, that is a lot of extra horsepower

Wait a minute! I didn't even count 20 hp "lawn tractors" because they aren't actually tractors. Now I see guys counting Craftsman lawn mowers, chain saws etc. Heck, if I wanted to count the dozens of Stihl powered equipment, lawn mowers, generators and other things that have an engine and produce HP, I'm sure I could add another 1200 to 1500 hp to my mix. I thought we were just counting tractors.

JD 6715 - 125hp
JD 6420 - 110hp

JD 5420 - 81hp
JD 5310 - 64hp
JD 5225 - 56 hp
JD 5200 - 45hp
JD 4700 - 48 hp

CIH 274 - 30 Hp
2x 245 - 35Hp = 70hp.

All of these are in Engine Hp.

= 714 / 80 acres = 8.925 Hp an acre...

They used to do ok with a mule on 40 acres so I'm golden.

While a mule may be smarter and will step around and over the plants, my tractors follow instructions better.

Hard to do this with farming though as at least 1/2 the work is done by other machines such as combines grain trucks and swathers ,Which would alter it considerably ?
If i added -

IH 1688 combine........270hp
IH 1480 combine........240hp
Hesston 8110 swather..75hp
GMC brig tandem........280hp
Ford L9000 tandem.....350hp

Would get 2827hp = 1.98 per acre ....I'm still surprised it's such a small number !

Hmm.... when will you learn it's not the size of the tool but how you work it that counts:thumbsup:

50/215 = .23 hp/ac

Here's a photo of me carrying an absolutely immobile post hole and fully braced corner which won't rot or rust, when I set it down .

What is with the pvc pipe? Do you have a toilet in your cab too?

/ Tractor -> Acreage Ratio #39
That's 2800 lbs of concrete surrounding the post hole, but you knew that.
The white PVC on the tractor(by the door, stuck in the loader crossbar, etc) holds chains, a 3lb sledge hammer, whatever fits.

Wait... Should I count the entire property, or leave out the portion that I'm renting out?

Ford 1510......23hp

120 acres

23/120 = .19hp per acre

If I leave out the rented ag field, it looks a little better (60 acres of crop may not be much, but it pays the property taxes! ;) :

23/60= .38hp per acre
