Tractor Hours/Year

I believe I have ~400 hours on my 2003 New Holland TC40D. I plow snow and spread a little gravel in the winter and do a some pasture mowing in the summer.

I just had it in for a fluid change/filters and had a few issues fixed, such a new bucket, and a #$!%$! mouse had a nest in the dash and chewed up the wires on the ECM/glow plug controller, plus a few smaller issues.

Why do I have barn cats if they're letting mice cause havoc?

Best thing I have ever done is start spraying “Rodent Defense” around and on my vehicles and barn, as long as I do it religiously I don’t have any more rodent problems, at least, as of now knock on wood……….

Your thinking in that department is right on time. I get so dang fired up every 10 or 15 hours of having to quit what I'm doing for sometimes 30 minutes while waiting for this thing to clean out the exhaust.

I was under the impression you could keep working while the regen cycle happened. I fact, I thought they wanted it worked hard o keep the temperature up.

I've never owned a tractor that had these kinds of systems, though I suspect that day is coming.

89' Ford 1720 4wd FEL. 1658 hrs. I'm the 3rd owner. -10 2 days ago and it fired right up. I got it from my neighbor with 780 hrs. in 2014.

Yes you are supposed to just raise the rpms and keep working during a regeneration cycle.

It makes me want to scream; well, it does make me scream every time it happens. This greenie weeny crap, especially on tractors needs to go. This EPA needs to be whittled down a notch or two. They could fire about half of those people, and they would never be missed then maybe some worthwhile things could get done.

Mine regenerates every 50-75 hours. 10-15 is too frequent and indicates either a problem with the unit or you’re operating it at too low of rpm. And I keep working while the regeneration process is happening. There’s no need to stop work.

That's in the range of my regens, I average about 50h between. I also have always worked straight through every Regen, and I keep a project or two available if the tractor calls for a regen when I'm done for the day.

760 hours in 24 years some years 50+ when there are bigger projects other years 25-30 hours when there are none but invaluable when needed to lift/move/haul/dig dirt, split wood and move brush etc.

Usually run at 1500 to 1700 RPM and the hour meter is mechanical which registers fewer hours at these RPMs so actual machine hours are higher,

An Tachometer-Based Hour Meter works off the RPM at PTO speed, they are not true hours meter (clock time) although some most new tractor have a electronic hour meter that record true running time.

The mechanical / cable driven hour meters are usually calibrated to PTO RPM = 1 hour - some others use 2000 RPM. My Kubota has the mechanical hour meter and will take like 10 minutes to click over a 1/10 (6 min) of an hour running at 1500 RPM.

That's hardly run in. It should not have a needed repair at these low hrs.

Looks in great shape considering 31000 miles! I'm sure a new engine is much more practical than a new model. How many years did that take? What are you doing with it!

Ever wonder how many hours per year people put on their tractors?
Ours are used mostly for small chores, snow, & landscaping - we don't do anymore mowing or field work.
The newish Kubota's hour meter averages almost 100 hrs/year since 2008. The old one less than 50/year.
It sure seems like more than that.....

John Deere 5045E bought new in 2021 has 592 hours. Used for maintaining 20 acres, food plots, garden, mowing, firewood harvesting, and baling. A little snow removal as needed.
