Tractor on 4x8 trailer

I think it's important to distinguish exactly the type of equipment is being towed and the circumstances under which it needs to be towed. I would agree that a BX23 with BH and FEL is too much for the small trailer, but a 2230 without those implements is most likely fine -- given the correct tongue weight and driving characteristics. For me, I'll be towing my BX2350 on a similar trailer (Car-mate 5x8, rated for 2990lbs) without a BH and perhaps only occasionally with the FEL -- and only on an infrequent basis. In that case, it will be just fine. It's just not practical for many people to own a tandem axle 16' trailer. For much longer distances, or if I was transporting the machine on a daily basis, I would certainly rent or buy a larger trailer.

The important thing is to not exceed the rated capacities for the trailer or the tow vehicle and to recognize when it's better or more practical to utilize more substantial tow equipment.

Just my $.02.

I actually took my trailer by a trailer manufacturer and had them look at it while I was there to get some ramps. From a weight standpoint, they said it would easily do it since I was at about 1/2 the rated weight. He said people haul 2 or 3 heavy ATVs on his single axle trailers all the time without incident. Then he looked at how the trailer was made and said that the square beam construction also added to its strength. Yes of course he agreed that a bigger trailer would be "better" but that is relative.

I consider myself a rather safe person who does not like to take risks. But that does not keep me from driving my Jeep Wrangler at 75mph on the freeway from time to time. If one front tire were to blow out, it could flip me over. I realize this is similar for single axle trailers.

If I were hauling this tractor all over Houston or Seattle etc, I would not be using the smallest trailer possible. I'll have to snap a picture the next time I am driving up at my remote cabin and fording that creek with the steep banks so you can see the reasoning for my decision.

If anyone has a better idea if how I can get my tractor back there, I would be all ears. Leaving it home is not an option. I have too much road work and maintenance to do up there.

Regards,
James

I thought I would share how I transport my Kubota BX2230. I have a 3500# axle trailer and it is rated to carry 2990#. I figure the tractor and loader weight in at about 1700# so I have some extra capacity on it. It does not cause problems turning rather sharp corners with the loader on the trailer tongue and the whole package pulls real easy at 55mph.

My BX23 is 2467 or with out the BH 1867

The BX23 is only about 600 pounds more.
The only place I might want to tow it would be 3 miles to the dealer it the need should arise.

NOPE
Nope just pointing out this thread is in conflict with all the other threads on the subject.

I also have an 8 foot long trailer that's 6 feet wide .
I have never attempted to haul my BX 23 on it because everything in those other trreads advises against it.

When you read dozzens of post saying not to do it in the other threads but only a few post in this one seggesting it , it makes me wonder just what is going on.

The size of the bed doesn't matter, it's how well the trailer is built. While I don't care much for single axle trailers, I have used them. I have, in the past, used a 6'x10' single axle tilt trailer much like the trailer the tractor is on. It is a well built trailer, and it handles about 200-250lbs less than capacity, very well. If you question your trailers ability to haul near it's capacity, do some "window shopping". Go look at the same type of trailer other companies make. If it looks as strong as the others, or stronger, it should be good. If it doesn't look as strong, I would question it's abilities, and maybe look at trading it in for one of the stronger looking trailers.

It would also be better if fabrej had an 18 wheeler with a flatbed trailer?!?!?

As long as he is within weight limits it looks fine to me. Fabrej seems well aware of his circumstances and capabilities.

From my owners manuel bx23: TRACTOR -1520
LOADER-W/O BUCKET 430
LOADER BUCKET 132
hoE W/O BUCKET-578
MY HOE BUCKET[10INCH]-37
total weght according to my manual 2697 not 2467.
add on diesal fuel, and my loaded tires mine tops 3000 lbs[without the toolbox, cabroof, thumbetc]

I would just like to say im glad your trailer is working out for you .It is probably capable to get the job done.Myself id prefer a tandem, only because if you blow a tire at 55 even with the weight of your tractor, you are gonna have one harry ride to keep it under control.I personally wouldnt risk a 15000 dollar tractor[mine] for an extra grand to pick up a good used tandem[or two for new]Good luck, and everone has their opinion so lets not shout[large writing] at each other,we are all tractor friends here.

I would love to have a tandum trailer for my tractor - if they were small enough that I could get one back in to my remote mountain property.

I have the tractor insured.

HELLO AGAIN
Can you give me a little help with that insurance,i may want some for myself. You see i checked into it and my ALLSTATE co said it was not covered on my auto plan if i lost it off in an accident .Even though my trailer itself was covered, the items i was hauling was not. They also said my homeowners didnt cover it when trailering off my property[if i added it:extra fee] So what i was left with is exspensive commercial insurance,in which i cant justify a few grand for a couple trailerings a year. This also made me refuse any tractor "favors" that i cant drive to.This is my reason for buying a safe new tandem, brake controller ,4 chains and binders, and a weight distribution hitch, which was about the same as the insurance fee they wanted. This was my insurance policy.
So if it aint to much to ask ,can you give me the scoop,on cheap trailering insurance on my tractor?
I here what your saying about ,not having enough room ,i had to widen out a few of my roads to accomadate my trailer.Did i understand your towing with a wrangler? I use a cherokee, that straight 6 has more than enough power ,dont need an 8 cylinder, even in hilly areas.

No to towing with the Wrangler. I was just trying to make a point about tire blowout dangers and risk. I tow the tractor with my V8 Silverado.

I had Farmers and they wanted to insure the tractor like a vehicle. No thank you - that was expensive. I ended up switching over to Allstate. They have a yard and garden type policy that you can add to your homeowners insurance (in Idaho - not sure about your state). It costs me about $50 per year and coveres the tractor from theft, fire and other stuff at my house. He said that the tractor would be covered on the trailer if I haul it up to my property to mow etc or if I was to haul it to the dealer for service etc. Make sure you get it in writing.
