Tractor rebuild project

Wow - this is a great story. Thank You for taking the time to share. Here I have been hemming and hawwing about installing a set of lights on my ROPs! I am about inspired to run out in the dark and start working on the thing! Will continue to follow your progress. - Dana

I fired it up and ... it still leaks :( :( I surmise that it is one of 3 things.
It might also be that the seal lip is getting "rolled" on installation. While I am not familiar with the seal on the Kubota engine, I have had this happen to me before. To solve the issue I took a plastic cup, cut the bottom out and slit the cup up the side so I could make a "cone" out of it. Then with my plastic cone in place on the collar I slid the seal up the plastic cup and onto the collar and pressed it in place. Removed the plastic and the seal lip stayed in place. Still doesn't leak.

So I'm thinking that I will purchase a new seal and collar and try to replace it a third time. And this time either rent a bigger torque wrench or at least ask a friend to help me apply more force to the nut.

Anyone have any better ideas?
Sounds like a good plan to me. Good luck.

I just found this post and it sounds like the project that I am trying to finish up. I split my L2900 but had a machine shop rebuild it. They told me to run it for 1/2 hour and then re-torque the head bolts. I am wondering if you can help me out with the tightening sequence, I cannot find it anywhere.

Geeeez. Great thread. Your writing is fabulous. Photos are great.

I started reading your first post and was hooked with the suspense. I had to read right through to find out what happened. You realize, you could keep us all in suspense with a promise that you'll post a video of your machine in action.

As was mentioned in a previous post, you've inspired me to tackle a couple of projects without further delay.

Now the question...what's your next learn as you go project...surgery, architecture, rocket science??? :D

And a tip of my hat to your wife. Clearly a rare gal indeed.
