Good news Joe,

I'd put together a checklist from the posts and run through, make sure nothing bites you later on.

Quite a story. I am glad everything seems OK. I learned a lot from this post, thanks all for the inputs.

Good job. I've seen motorcycles and tractors submerged and the outcome was always good as long as they were attacked right away. What never turns out well is when a car or truck is submerged. Then things like upholstery and delicate electrics come into play and rarely work out completely to the good.

My daughter lives in Arlington, but near the campus, so she had no high water to deal with.

I have a 541 offset that came from lousiana.. I am quite sure it was submerged during katrina.. I had sediment int he bottom of castings.. took a while to clean that puppy out.

Sorry, this is Texas............I've never had a tractor get submarined before. Ever.

Sorry to hear about that, but those old Fords can take it. In 1972, my father's company had a 53 Ford Jubilee that got totally submerged (it was under at least 10-feet of water) by floods from Hurricane Agnes. They sold the tractor to my father as scrap, and he brought it home, drained/flushed all the fluids and it started right up. It's now 2010 and it still runs.

I also submerged my Kawasaki ATV a few years ago, and after some TLC (the piston jugs were at least 1/2 full) and fluid flushes, it's running fine.

You may have shortened it's life a little bit, but it sounds like it's running ok.

Since he jumped on it right away and went through it correctly, I really don't think that he shortened it's life. If it were mine though, I wouldn't run it more than a few hours then get it to operating temperature then shut it off and drain the crankcase while it is still hot. That way any moisture or anything else will be churned up in the oil and will come out. I think after that, the tractor will never know the difference.

My $0.02,

alchhol could be added to the non crankcase oil sumps when you run it.. that way when it drains you can solvate some water that may otherwise pool behind flanges.. etc.

The benefit to the non computerized tractors and vehicles is that they can be restored after taking a bath at times.

In my younger days my buddies and I regularly submerged ATVs. We would tow them back to the truck. By the next weekend we always had them ready to ride.
