You might want to consider a 'gooseneck' trailer. That would give you much better weight distribution on that small of a truck. The handling difference is like daylight and dark.

I was pretty sure I wanted surge brakes but after ready all of your thoughts maybe electric brakes aren't so bad. In regards to the "gooseneck" trailer idea, I did not even think that style trailer would be available for the Ranger size truck. Thanks for all the ideas... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looked at a number of trailers. I liked the LoadRite trailers the best but I couldn't justify the large cost difference. I am only going to use the trailer a 2-4 times a year. Ended up with a BigTex 18' tandem axle trailer with electric brakes. Thanks for all the information in regards to brakes...I most likely would have ended up with surge brakes...
