Everybody has an opinion and most times it's "Mine is The Best" ... The only experience I have with Kubota is I have used my neighbors new M7040 about 10 times total to put out hay for his cows when he can't ... I find the cab floor mat real nice and spongy soft and the cab quiet ... I find the high low range hard to shift, the transmission difficult to shift, the location of levers different (cause I'm not used to them) ... the tractor is way to light in the rear end, in fact light through out the whole tractor ... the tires for me are to narrow ... and when you close the hood its difficult to get it to latch ... I feel the tractor is way over priced for the quality ... thats my observation... I would not trade my Montana 4340C for it.
That being said ... it sure is a pretty orange !!
I agree with the weight thing. If you look at the Grand L series it's about the same, maybe a tad lighter than others in the same HP and class range. When you look at them between say the GL up to the M100 series the specs show them to be on the light side. Once you get into the M100 series they seem to be on par with our CaseIH 5140 as far as weight.
Compare a JD 5100M to a Kubota M9540, they're about the same frame size and PTO HP. The JD weighs 8750lbs, the Kubota weighs 6175lbs. The JD cost about $16K more but that's a huge weight difference, both were cab models with 4WD. A friend of mine has a JD 5115M on order and at first glance I thought it seemed a bit light until I looked at some others. As far as weight the JD compares closer to the M108 Cab with 4WD but it's actually classified as a Row Crop and not a Utility, it weighs in at 8576 lbs. there again though the Kubota M108 with 4WD and Cab is about $13K less than JD 5100M. Personally I think the M108 is the bargain tractor for it's weight and HP in the Kubota larger frame tractors but I don't think it has all the bells and whistles you get when move into the M110 and up and the M110 cost nearly as much as the Deere.
