Working on a 1982 Horse tiller that has been sitting for 12 years. Having trouble getting the forward/reverse lever to operate. I know where it is froze up. And I don't need to break the housing while getting the old girl to move. Any ideals? Heat is my second thought after waiting a few days on w-d forty to work. Ordered a manual today. Thanks.

Be careful. Don't force. It's easy to bend or break the Forward-Reverse lever. All parts are available through MTD to rebuild the Forward-Reverse mechanism.

I have a 1976 Troy-Bilt Horse with a 6HP Tecumseh engine. I had the Forward-Reverse lever reinforced at a local welding shop. A strip of 1"X 1/4" steel was welded to the topside of the lever. Now it will not bend or break.

It would help to know where it is rusted together. There are only a few places that can be froze and they are easily disassembled by removing a few bolts and separating the parts.

The motor mount bars are stuck fast. Sorry about not filling in the big hole in my post.

Lots of Kroil penetrating oil. Or take it all apart and clean the surfaces on a wire brush wheel.

Sliding free and happy. After spraying it for four day I finally took it apart and tapped it with a small hammer. Thanks for the in put.

JakeBrake, any chance you could post a picture of the reinforced welded repair to the Forward-Reverse lever? thanks in advance.
