Tommy,
My friend has purchased a Dodge Mega Cab last year, it's a half-ton, and it has eight lugs on the wheels of his truck. We thought at first when we got his truck home they given him a 3/4 ton, but we looked it up on the net, and some of the Heavy Duty 1/2 ton trucks of Dodge has eight hole bud wheels.

i have a rental truck they gave me to use while my car is getting repaired . i love this truck it's a dodge ram big horn . now comes the question this thing has 20"tires on it and my mechanic buddy looked at the rearend and he said it has to be a 3/4 ton or better . the thing is it has a 4.7 liter v8 in it and as for as i can see it's a 1/2 ton. but this thing has more power than any half ton i ever drove . so what is it a 1/2 ton or a 3/4 ton? i can post pictures of it if needed. the reason i'm asking is i am interested in possibly buying one just like it if not this one.but i would like a 3/4 ton .

According to the Dodge website that engine is available in a 1/2 ton only.

Tommy, it's a 1/2 ton and likely the last of a dying breed. Fuel prices have the automakers in a complete and total panic to make econo-boxes. The specs on several half tons, like the one you describe, exceed those of older 3/4 ton pickups made in the 80's. It seems that many people don't want to own a "heavy duty" pickup so they will only buy a half ton model. However, these same people constantly want the truck to do more and more. Remember seeing the "heavy half" pickups? Other than some suspension items, much of the difference between the half ton and 3/4 ton are likely just in the brakes.

Not even close!

Heavier springs, suspension parts, axles, U-joints, drive shaft, transmission, cooling, etc.

Basically, the body may be the same, but the "suff" under it is way different.

Park a 1/2 next to a 3/4 and crawl up under there for a gander. It's obvious when side by side.

I've never owned a 3/4 ton; only 1/2 ton vehicles and 1 ton vehicles. However, I know it is an undisputed fact that some of today's 1/2 ton vehicles out-spec 3/4 ton vehicles of the late 70's and 80's.

I thought the frames were the same between the 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups until I changed the oil in a 3/4 ton pickup for a friend. Same brand of pickup, far different frame. Maybe it's like comparing the underside of the tandem axle dump truck I had to a one ton pickup; no comparison. I just knew by looking at the rear axle and suspension that the pickup Tommy pictured was a half ton.

after everything i checked out on it it sure is a half ton in a 3/4 ton body. lol. it's the beafiest 1/2 ton i ever seen my buddy who is a die hard chevy man even is impressed after lookin at it. he's even thinkin of switchin over to the dodges after the inspection. just a figure of speach that the truck is a 1/2 ton in a 3/4 ton body . although it is built tough.. i'm gonn hate to bring this thing back to enterprise when my little green bug is finished.
