Tough day today, our golden that we have had for thirteen years died today. She has had cancer and had been eating next to nothing for the last two weeks but some how she found the energy to still go on walks around our farm though they were a lot shorter then in the past. She had a knack for finding old deer bones and antlers out in the woods of the property. She also loved to swim in the ponds to cool off in during the hot summer walks. She also was a therapy dog and would go with my wife to visit patients at the local hospice. She was friendly to all and loved by many. We will miss her very much.

I can 100% understand the type of dog you had. We our German Shepherd in may. She was the best dog I've had!

Really sorry to hear about your dog, Ranger.

You are using heat in the floor, eh? I like that! Can you explain how you are doing that? What will be the heat source, etc.?

Wow time flies, the holidays and sending my wife off on her annual trip to Antarctica have made the last couple of weeks fly by. I finally got back to working on the barn today. I decided to put the sheathing on the gable truss before I put it up. So I spent a couple of hours cutting and nailing the sheathing on. Got one of the two done. The weather forecast is for mild weather for the next week so I hope to make some progress. I ordered the metal roofing yesterday, About $2300 for all the roofing, trim, screws delivery and taxes. Should be here in a week or so.

To be honest I have not decide on what heat source to use. I just know down the road I want to put some heat in there and many people on this forum have said how they like radiant heat. I will be ready with the tubing already in the concrete. I have to do some more research on it myself. Always looking for ideas.

A small wall mounted condensing boiler is a good way to go. High efficient (98%), requires a drain for the condensate. Or you can install a wood boiler about 50' away if you have a good supply of wood. Or both?
I have hydronic heating myself and it was the best decision ever.

Today I made a boom for my front end loader so that I can lift my trusses into place. I had a piece of LVL beam that was left over from our house renovation last year. I also had a couple of rough cut 2x6 floor joists. I put them all together with timberlock screws to make a 15 foot boom. I have 10' walls so I need some height to be able to lift the trusses into place. I screwed a board under the forks to keep the whole thing from coming back on me if I have it too high. I also screwed a couple of boards on the back side of the forks to keep the boom from sliding fore and aft. A couple of tie down straps steady the whole thing from moving left and right. Hopefully it will work well for me. I did sit on the end of the boom and it held me up without anything breaking.
Tomorrow will be the real test. Rick

The boom on the front of the tractor works. I had to turn around after I picked the gable truss up and it felt like I was a little light on my rear wheels even though I had my box blade on. I set it back down and went and put my bush hog on. With the extra weight I did not have any problem. The gable truss is completely sheathed so it was heavy. It is a little difficult to watch from the cab when you lift it high enough to clear the top of the walls. I got it into place and now have it braced. It is still getting dark too early. Rick
