TYM T474
I’ve been browsing for the past couple of weeks on 3rd function kits for the 474 and can’t seem to get an answer on if the universal kits sold (they’re about half the cost of the tractor specific ones im seeing) will work on the tractor. Any input would be great and small businesses to recommend buying them from also. Thanks

I believe the most popular one is the WR Long kit. Kinda of an universal kit that works with pretty much anything but as with anything universal, it may not fit the best or be the cleanest install.

In some cases, the factory kit comes with nice hard lines that really make for a clean install. These generic kits usually come with just rubber hoses that are zip tied to the loader hard lines. It's up to you what you're looking for.

Also, some factory ones, offer a diverter valve, instead of a 3rd function. There is a lot of debate on what's the best one. A lot of people think that with a 3rd function they are able to do 3 functions at the same time, not true at all, plus the 3rd function will be On/Off, no feathering ability.

The diverter however, diverts the flow from the curl cylinders to the auxiliary circuit and allows you to fine adjust the movement of, lets say a cylinder on a grapple or a snow blade, etc.

Not sure what options TYM offers though, you may want to dig into that.

Not sure about the 474. The 494/574 twins have the 3rd function lines pre-run up to the front of the tractor. You still need the kit to go from the tractor to the loader.

My dealer used the WR Long kit instead of the TYM kit. They had been a Branson dealer and were more comfortable with what they had been using.

The Branson one was a diverter with the solenoid valve out on the loader cross tube.

I have my grapple run off a third function valve mounted on the fender. I never use less than full flow. Even at PTO RPM the lids don't move that fast. It's a two lid grapple. A single lid model with a single cylinder would have the lid move faster.

Thank you all for the responses, they’ve been very informative. It doesn’t seem like there’s too many videos online about the different kinds and that was the first time I’ve heard of the diverter. I believe mine has the pre ran lines that just need the kit as Torvy mentioned to go from the side of the tractor up to the end of loader

Video of installing the factory kit: The loader valve is ready to bolt the third function onto.

I am going to install a pair of diverters on my tiny tractor. TYM no longer has the kit for my tractor and loader. I bought a WR Long Kit, and I might be able to install it in the line from the pump, before the factory loader valve like the instructions show. But the tiny tractor doesn’t have a lot of room under there to do anything in.

Started looking at options to mount a diverter valve on the loader arm, and it looks like it will be easiest to install a pair and clamp them to the loader arm one on each side with some all-thread pulling them together to mount them. Next time I get to Big Town, I need to get some steel hard lines, to keep it from looking like I kludged it together.

I found some weatherproof momentary contact switches, which fit in the factory loader handle, and the handle stem is hollow to run a set of wires down. So it should be pretty easy to wire them in.

Now all I need is a couple of free days.

Why two diverter valves? Do you have a link to the momentary contact switches?

I would recommend the factory 3rd function kit, it has steel lines most of the way and is made to use the 2 buttons on the joystick. WR long kits have had moisture get into a printed circuit board on the bottom of the valve rendering them useless.

Decided that it will be easier to mount two diverter valves back to back sandwiching the loader arm, than to track down a suitable plate, and drill it to mount the single valve.

Plus with a diverter on both loader circuits, one of them has float, which could come in handy if I build a Skid Steer to 3-point adapter, and put the rear grader blade on the front to plow snow. Add a cylinder to skew the blade using a diverter. And then try floating either the loader with the angle of attack of the blade fixed, or float the blade angle with the loader arms fixed, and see what works best with what kind of snow.

A couple years ago I bought the factory kit for my RK37 which was built bu TYM. The kit even had a TYM part number on it. As ptsg said the install was more or less hassle free due to the hydraulic lines being precut to correct lengths. Very neat install. Mine is a cabbed model so removing the paneling to get to the hydraulic joystick was a pain. You didn't mention what year your tractor is but mine is a 2018 and at that time they didn't come with a two button joystick already installed as they do now. If your tractor doesn't already have the 2 button joystick make sure the kit you get comes with one. If you have a cabbed model and have to replace the joystick that's the biggest hassle of all. The TYM kit even came with a new FEL cross member that the diverter valve mounts on so there not even any drilling involved for mounting hardware. Very happy with mine.

I know this is an old thread but am curious what you ended up going with for a 3rd function kit on your T474. I bought my tractor about 6 months ago, used with 21 hours and is 2023. Unfortunately this was my first tractor purchasing experience and I was a complete noob. Therefore when it was sold to me they said it came with 3rd function, which I believed due to the factory installed joystick buttons. Once I got the tractor home I looked everything over to get somewhat familiar with my new machine. As you all know here, the tractor DOES NOT come with any 3rd function components other than the cheap buttons installed on the joystick. I think this marketing scam should warrant some sort of compensation straight from TYM, as well as the dealer that sold it. I certainly should've done my own research but I also think the same for the dealer who was selling the tractor

TYM makes a kit, it will vary depending on ROPS or cab model. They are good kits with steel lines that run down the loader to the pioneer fittings.
I have also seen the WR Long kit and its nice too but has hoses instead of steel lines (not a big issue in my opinion...they both get the job done)
, Im my locality the WR Long kit was not much cheaper than the TYM kit.
I would say the dealer who sold the tractor was misleading or just mistaken, In any TYM literature/ website I've never seen anything that falsely implies a unit comes with a third function. Its an add on for 99% of their tractors, Only a few of the big cab units have it standard.

Yes and No. They are "pre-wired" for a 3rd function. Lines are already run toward the loader. This is not common with other mfgs. It is designed to use a true 3rd function, not just a diverter valve.

The OEM is the best and easiest option.

WR Long also makes a good kit.

I wonder if they mistook rear remotes for 3rd function Wannabe..

I went for the buy once cry once mentality and got the TYM 3rd function kit. It’s a super clean install made specifically for my tractor. I think it was 1k.

Thank you for the recommendations. Think I'll talk to the TYM dealer for the OEM kit. I like the idea of hard lines running down the loader. I have yet to deal with the TYM dealer in this area but from what I've heard they aren't the most popular. I really should take the time to get to know them for future service needs. I'm due for my 50 hour service and need to buy parts so is a good excuse to visit. Unfortunately they're an hour away.

FYI, the factory kit I purchased from the dealer for my T25 had 2 separate part numbers. If I remember correctly, one for the hard lines, and 1 for the valve body and all associated parts.

Good luck. My nearest dealer is about an hour, too. I didn't buy from them, largely because the sales guy didn't return my calls. Fortunately, new management values customers and is happy to have my business, even though I bought elsewhere.

Sadly, many tractor dealers of all brands are short-sighted and petty. If they don't sell you the tractor, they treat you like a distant cousin that only shows up when the buffet is open and the drinks are free.

The genuine T474 kit controls two additional solenoid valves installed on the existing valve block, which enables a true 3rd function setup. If the aftermarket kit you’re looking at is a diverter type, it won’t give you true 3rd function control — so I wouldn’t really recommend it.
