UNIMOG RESTORATION UPDATE + PHOTOS

Just a few updates on the Unimog project. Here is a photo if the rear axle housings. The green camo one is the replacement one. You can see that its not all chewed up in the middle photo! Only thing is that its from a later year truck and they made some changes. I had to take it to a machine shop to have the bearing seats cut to match the old housing. Cost is to be $75.00 max, so thats not too bad. Beats chasing down a new axle and bearing and then wondering if it will be different in the reduction housing as well! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Plus the supplier of the used housing said he will be giving me a deal on some other parts to make up for the extra $$$ I need to spend on the machine work. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif So it all works out in the end! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Here is a photo of the air locker "dog", piston an spring that came with the new housing. All of these parts were missing from my axle! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I guess this is what caused the housing to be all chewed up! Will now be able to use the truck to its fullest! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And of course I have to clean up all the rest of the axle and replace the seals, and give it a fresh paint job. Here its getting prepped for painting. Just scraping off the tar and rust. Will be using the rust encapulatior and black chassis paint. Should be like new when I'm done! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Von you sure get involved in some interesting projects. Last night I was thinking about your new toy and had an interesting visual pop into my mind. If you were to add 20” rims to your trailer and paint the new cab Kubota orange you would have the coolest tractor hauler on TBN. Plus if the tractor broke you could finish bush hogging with the hauler. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You know, before your threah I had a very different opinion of exactly what junk was. Looking at some of the before pictures, I would never imagine what the after pictures might look like.

OK its been awaile since my last update. I have been spending way too much time bow hunting and not enough time working on the Mog! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have to hurry up as the cab is on a boat now and will be here by the end of the month! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif So I have been busy getting everything ready to have a rolling chassis before the cab arrives! So the first photo is of the front axle as it comes apart.
