Unique Problem?

Paul, I've been out of the country since your original post. I have a 2910 with folding rops. I can't say as I've ever noticed a rattle coming from the rops and with the hinge point being pretty close to my ears, and my being particularly sensitive to rattles, I guess I'd have to say mine doesn't rattle, or at least not much. I guess you could take a C-clamp and squeeze the two bracket halves a little closer together. Then when you put in the bolt, it would be easier to cinch it tight. I have a pointed bar mounted on my tractor to help line up the 3 pt attachments. When I tighten the rops bolt, I always use that bar through the ring to secure it tight. You might give that a try.

so 70Boss, what have you done about it? I have "tuned out" the rattle (too bad I don't have a radio to turn up to cover new noises, like in my '70 Impala during high school/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif), but that still doesn't make me any more comfortable with the sloppy fit tolerances on what seems to be just a few tractors. Since I "mail ordered" mine, I can't just call up the dealer and insist on a fix or replacement. Like I said in my earlier posts, I find it hard to believe that Kubota would engineer these loose tolerances into the ROPS. Do you think its still safe in a rollover situation? Maybe Kubota should be concerned regarding lawsuits for faulty ROPS. Has anyone heard of any tractor recalls??

If I don't hear anything better from the group, I'll probably put in some rubber gasket material. I wish an official Kubota tech/factory rep would monitor these posts. In fact, I think I'll post one addressed to that (possibly) hypothetical person just to see if anyone responds. Look for the "Kubota Factory Rep" topic if you're interested.

I mentioned it to my dealer, and he said he could send someone out. I think I will have them look at it at the 50 hour service. I have tuned it out also, the integrity of the system is not at stake, I have full confidence it would not fail in a roll over.

Don't know where I read it now, but saw a post from KubMech or AllMobile stating that many folding ROPS have been assembled with a couple spacing washers missing. Causes the ROPS to rattle. Mine has the washers (on the pivot bolts) and does not rattle. He also stated that many ROPS have the mounting bolts are snug, but not to spec. on torque. Causes the ROPS to be loose.

Wheeldog, Sounds like yours is set-up properly. When the bolts are tight the rops is tight that's why you had trouble folding it down. Without the spacers (on the inside) the rops wont tighten, just bend. Sorry for the late info but when I saw the tractor from another dealer the other day it hit me what might be the problem with some of your rops.

Kubmech, Thanks! I owe you a beverage of your choice! I added spacers, tightened everything down, and man, that thing is solid as a rock! No wobble, no vibration, no noise /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. The bottom bolts were pretty tight, but I was able to torque them a bit also which seemed to help, although I really hadn't noticed much from the bottom since there was a 1/4" play at the hinge....Thanks again.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'm pretty happy about how my ROPs is set up now, after the initial adjustment. Now all I need is some early warning system to tell the operator when the 86" high ROPS is getting near the 84" high garage door opening /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

The "other" dealer we got this tractor from is pretty proud of how much faster they can assemble tractors than we can. I did'nt mention the other things we found wrong with this tractor.
