Unsafe towing... Heavy tractor on broken "7k" landscape trailer

The no brakes and poor tie down alone win it for me as an unsafe load but at least I don't think the weight is as bad as you think. I know the 50 series are well built but my L5030 HSTC has much bigger loaded tires and a cab and bigger loader and only weighs in at 6500 lb.

so -- 6500lbs for tractor alone. add weight of cutter. add weight of trailer. Maybe the guy knew this and used rachet straps to save weight instead of chains and binders :laughing:
I am guessing the setup is 8k back there on a truck with no hookup of the required brakes above 3500lbs. sad :( I just hope he made it home ok instead of killing/hurting someone.

But a 7000# rated trailer that weighs 1500 empty has a useful load of 5,500#. must remember this

you beat me to the punch...
I would have liked to, but I need to find a number to call besides 911. Also, I didn't know his route home and didn't want to follow him.

hmm -- sounds like a 911 call to keep him hurting himself and others. I wouldnt care about following him or not-- all u need is last known direction he was driving and the description of said vehicle. I am willing to bet that the local leo will find him fast...

It was probably his good trailer ... the other one was in the shop for repairs.

Guess you didn't have him sign a disclaimer that said the driver was solely responsible for securing the load and transporting it? :D

He signed a "sold as-is where-is" bill of sale, loaded it, filled his tires and left.

Same here. I would drive it there first.

Wish we could have kept it, but he insisted that it be part of the sale.

Given what I have seen of his tractor driving style, I fully expect it to be for sale on Craigslist within a year for scrap.

Too bad:confused2:

I have a 105 cutter I bought 4 years ago. It was old and beat up when I got it, and I only beat on it more, but never failed:thumbsup:

when I was looking at trailers, I saw one like that only new, they told me that it was a 3500 lb. weight trailer. Notice the short tongue and it looks to be made of 3 or 4 inch wide metal. The 7000 lb. trailer I bought has 6 inch metal for tongue and goes all the way to the first axil.

Well ive never seen a 3500# weighted trailer with 2 axles myself. I thought the tandems started at 7,000 and went up from there. On my 7,000 trailer the main frame from the hitch also goes thru to front axle.... but hard to see in picture. It goes thru the frony frame rtail and continues to axle. can only tell on underside
