Using an offset flail mower to mow grass

I think mowing in general is very much like snow plowing... A whole lot of variables that affect the outcome.
I find that the higher my flail is set, the worse the cut gets. 3" results in a finish mower cut in normal to slightly high turf grass. If I'm running the flail elevated over my stream bank with tall vegetation, the cut quality is much less consistent.

I raised mine all the way up when I was getting the barbed wire out. I dont care too much about cut quality, but higher means I have to cut more often. It has 3 settings. I think I'll use the middle one next.
