It’s becoming a real challenge being the single parent of an 86 mom with Alzheimers at the same time the demands of my hospital job have doubled... the help I had is no more both helping hands and the twice a week outings to the senior center which Mom really enjoyed.
No concept of the current state of the world and for the first time ever being branded the bad guy for refusing to take Mom to church or making the drive to my brothers tree farm.
There is no church and tree farm family have colds.
I have had to lock up provisions as mom opened up all my freeze dried camping rations and threw them out saying they were dried up and no longer good...
I’m venting just taking it one day at a time hoping to catch a few hours sleep each night.
Comprehending how a person would not remember their home of 50 years is the hardest... it gets harder to alleviate her anxiety to reassure by walking in her garden or looking at family pictures... thankfully the 95 year old neighbor couple have me on speed dial.
Every time UPS or FedEx or Amazon is on the street she races out to ask drivers what are they doing driving big trucks in a residential neighborhood?
We were out walking at a state park tonight when one of our phones rang. Mother-in-law says father-in-law is sick, won't open his eyes, won't get up. Should she call the hospice nurse? We tell her yes, of course. Nurse arrives in half an hour. Nothing is wrong. Old dude just didn't want to get up. Told her he was sick, but he's not. Further interrogation reveals mom got him up at 1pm, fed him, gave him a shower, watched TV, etc.... he sat down for a nap and didn't want to get up for dinner. Nurse said he has no fever, no abdominal pain, can't find anything wrong with him other than dementia.
She's been cooped up with him for 2 weeks. No helpers coming in due to virus risk. It's getting hard on her.

D@mn Moss . . . Time to step up a bit?
I feel for you guys with the dementia patients to care for. I have been in your shoes. Fortunately I had the wife to help too.
