Grapple Wanting info on grapple buckets/thumbs

Guys. forgive my ignorance, but in researching this I keep reading that JD 3X20 series come with a 3rd SCV from the factory. I thought this was an added cost option. What is the deal? My 3520 has no aux hydraulic outputs that I ordered. Am I correct in assuming that I need the WR Long valve kit($550ish) and the Millonzi grapple bucket and nothing more/ nothing less to get my tractor setup with grapple capabilities?

This is what I know...
On the older series tractors that your model replaced, (4310,4410) the 3rd valve was attached to the loader DSCV, but it was not plumbed out and there was not handle to control it. I am 99% sure the new series are the same way. The 3rd SCV kit includes the plumbing (hard steel lines), control handle brackets, QD's and other hardware to make it work. I believe I already gave you the part # and price in another thread?

You could either go this route with long hoses OR the WR Long diverter kit with the Millonzi grapple.


I would get the 48" one and save your money and keep your lift capacity.

Based on Islands posts, I am definitely going with the Millonzi 48". I will probably go with the WR Long Valve kit, but just wanted to make sure that would be the most economical route. I dont mind spending the extra $550 but just wanted to make sure I am getting the best bang for the buck. I will look through my other posts for your mention of the part number. Thanks.

Hey, I agree with that decision. No question the best bang for the buck out there is the 48" Millonzi. The 48" grapple will be just fine. I have yet to see a coherent argument on TBN for anything bigger except that some guys insist on having grapples the same size as their buckets. Save the money you'd spend on a 60" grapple and get the 48" then treat yourself to a "free" bonus implement or diverter valve.

I've posted many times that I liked my rear remotes to control the grapple but then I had rear remotes on my CK20 so it was a no brainer. I now have a new tractor that has both rear remotes and the WRLong diverter. I like the diverter too (but am still having trouble getting used to it). I would be happy with either set up. I suspect if you are having them installed by a dealer that the rear remote option might be a little cheaper but not enough to be the deciding factor. More important is whether the rear remote controller for your tractor would be in a place that you could easily (unconsciously like a stick shift transmission) move your hand to from the FEL controller without looking). If not then go for the diverter.

Photos of 48" Millonzi on the CK20 and the DK40se. Works beautifully on both tractors. Not too big for the CK20/KL120 and certainly not overpowered by the 2700lb lift capacity of the DK40se/KL401.

To make sure I understand, does the "3rd rear SCV kit" eliminate the need for the WR Long valve kit? In othetr words, if I get the JD 3rd SCV would I not need the WR long kit? If so, what would control the grapple? Would it be controlled with the rockshaft lever?

Correct. The "3rd rear Scv kit" is JD's confusing terminology for "rear remote". If you have a rear remote you can use it to control the grapple and it will only cost the price of a couple of long hydraulic hoses and the matching quick connect fittings (about $100) to get a grapple operational. You would not need the WRLong kit in that scenario.

However, as the "3rd rear SCV kit" costs about $400 the difference in price is negligible when compared to the WRLong kit.

What makes the most sense is to get the kit factory installed for $329 or so. As then there is no extra labor to install either the rear remote kit or the WR Long kit. If someone has a tractor with the rear remote already installed, it would take me only about fifteen minutes, with the appropriate hoses, fittings, and a handful of zipties to get a grapple operational. Installing either the rear remote kit or the WRLong kit is at least an afternoon's work.

What kit costs "$329 or so"? I am confused(yet again). In one post they say the JD 3rd SCV costa around $200, then you mentioned it costs around 400, then you said it makes the most sense to get the kit factory kit installed for $329 or so. I am a bit lost.

For convenience of use, the WR Long valve kit and loader rocker switch can't be beat. Open and close grapple without removing your hand from the stick.

Sorry for the confusion. I looked on the JD website and saw that if you order the 3rd SCV when you buy the tractor from the factory they charge $329 (something close anyway). Someone else posted a quote of $400 from the dealer to retrofit the "3rd SCV" (which in most tractor language would be called the first set of rear remotes as the first and second are tied up with the FEL and no other manufacturer counts them...JD's terminology is correct but confusing). I don't know where the quote of $200 comes from but that is too low for even the parts from JD. Maybe you can get the parts from a hydraulic discounter for $200 but not from JD.

Island, I hate to disagree here, but your wrong on the price. I posted earlier in this thread (reply #23) the part # and a price of $211.00 right from the configurator. Not sure where your getting your info from?
