You all sound like tribology engineers. You are greasing a tractor with bushings. There is nothing high speed or high temperature on any tractor I am aware of beyond the engine. Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. For you FEL and Backhoe, a good NLGI Grade 2 Lithium base grease will work fine. Understand that grease is made of Soap and Oil. The oil is what has all the additives and doing the lubricating. The soap (95% of the product) only has a function of keeping the oil in solution so it doesn't all run out when you apply it. Grease also acts to keep contamination out and grease re-application is important from a purge standpoint. Some of the most important additives to consider are the Moly and EP additive (not rated). The EP additive stands for "extreme pressure". The moly will act very similar to graphite. So again, important things to remember about grease: Viscosity (NLGI 1,2,3,etc), Additives, soap base (lithium, etc), water washout, and especially 4 ball wear (otherwise called Timken 4 ball wear test). Sounds like I just started sounding like a tribology engineer as well. I think you guys are on the right track and asking the right questions. You may want to check out Exxon-Mobil's website, Royal Purple, Shell, etc. These are the poeple that "green grease", JD, kubota etc buy their grease from. The color is typically purposely added to distinguish greases from one another (really usefull when you deal with 10-15 different types daily).
