Wear the stupid helmet !!!!

Please enlighten me to what relgious beliefs we're talking about.

Here is the deal... when you die, your body is worm food. What you want to do with your body aftwards is up to you, but no matter what kind of SOB you were in real life (grumpy old man or not), the way I see it (religion or not) if you can help some poor person who is in need of a body part, what the f is your body part going to do for you when you're dead? NOTHING.

As far as religion, I can believe that that a car is my God and if my God tells me to kill someone, is it my religious belief to do so? Of course the answer is no to us, but what about in the eye of the beholder?

However, the way I see it (no matter what your religion is), if you can't help others before your last breath (or perhaps in death), what's the point of living?

As is obvious, there are many differences when it comes to this subject. Let's just let it go at that rather than start thumping each other on those beliefs.

There is a person somewhere in my area who was pushing brush with his fel a tree came over the bucket and hit him in the face. Don't know how long he lived.

So, let's not stop at motorcycles let's include tractors and lawnmowers and such. Let's mandate roll cages ,airbags , protective glass and helmets for tractors. I don't like helmet and seatbelt laws, but I still choose them wear them. I also agree that you nor I should have to pay for the mistakes of others.

Do you feel the sameway when people kill in the name of their religion? Personally, I don't.

Your body, your right. That said, when your dead, if by slim chance you can help save the life of another person even in death, you're nothing more than a selfish and scared IMO.

Yep. Let's just let them lay there on the side of the road and think about it until they recover or croak. ;)

You got a typo in there....

Good point; however I think the state has a greater interest in motorcycle safety. Motorcycles are driven on state roads, streets and highways just like automobiles. The state requires insurance to do so, in order to protect innocent victims from financial disasters. Insurance rates will vary with safety devices, ergo, my guess is that insurance rates will be a bit better in states that require helmets and safety equipment; not to mention the state not having to take care of an indigent vegetable. I can remember when head rests and seat belts were first required by law in new autos. This equipment has saved thousands of people from death and serious injury.

In any case, don't know much about insurance, safety and farming, but I believe the circumstances to be a bit different. I do know that farm equipment is a lot safer now than in the 50's and 60's when I did farm work and joined a harvest crew. As a wise man once told me, "You can't live your life in a glass cage".

Safety gear shouldn't be mandated because you'd think people would want to use it. For whatever reasons, some people don't want to use it. You used to never see roofers wearing fall protection. Now it's common practice. I have to go on roofs fairly often at my current job. You wouldn't believe how many of the long-term employees are fighting about having to wear fall protection now being mandated by our employer. They claim only an idiot would step off the side of a roof, yet I've seen many of them with broken bones, smashed fingers, twisted ankles, torqued backs, and endless bandaids... all injuries that occurred on flat ground!

Been riding bikes over 55+ years w/out helmet and feel lot safer w/out helmet.
NH has no helmet law over certain age..."Let those ride decide"

N.H. did have a helmet law prior to 1977 or 78, so presumably you wore one before that.
AFAIK the state DOES require a helmet for snowmobile riders. Even though as someone else noted, you have zilch for peripheral vision, they're nice especially when you get whapped in the face with a branch that protrudes into the trail. Helps with windchill/frostbite too!
Not sure what the law here is with ATVs. I don't wear one when I ride mine, but only use it on my own property...no trail riding.

II think anyone who rides without one should be required sign away any right to compensation for head injuries to ensure that those of us that do wear helmets don't have to pay higher rates. Go ahead, take the risk, just don't make me pay for YOUR poor decision.

I agree 100% with that. If you want to live on the edge, then you should accept all responsibilities for any consequences.

That having been said, when I used to ride I sometimes wore a helmet, sometimes not. Same thing goes for seatbelts (no seatbelt required in N.H. if you're over 18). Don't wear a seatbelt on the tractor either. :guilty:

Little choice here in WA state. It's the law. Ride w/out a helmet - you are a FLAMING ICON for LEO.

Besides - my full face helmet has deflected many bugs in its years of use. I HATE a juicy one straight in the mouth - but full contact with my eye - they can hear my screams over on the wet side.
That explains those Sasquatch sounds! :D

Back when i young and not so bright and rode a bike, I rode with and without protective gear. Then a friend of mine from high-school got ahold of me to go for a visit to another high school buddy. It was several hours away and on the way, he told me that the this buddy had been involved in a motorcycle accident several years ago, while riding without a helmet.

Washington state has had an off and on again affair with helmet law.

So the take away, is this friend of ours had serious brain damage that affected his reasoning ability and completely changed his personality.

I rode with gear from then on.

Only problem with that is I pay a huge amount of money to several insurance companies for them to come get me off the side of the road. I need to be airlifted? I got insurance for that also.
