Thanks guys for the help and suggestions.

I've been getting kind of ahead of myself searching for answers to problems I'm no where near to yet.

Today I've spent the last several hours tyring to figure out how to get the injector nozzles out. Any suggestions?

It's a Bosch fuel injector and from what I can tell, it looks like they are just pressed in. The picture shows the notches on either side that a clamp went around to hold it down. A bolt through the clamp held pulled the injector down and kept it tight.

Now that the clamp is off, I have an injector with two notches on either side. I tried a wrench to see if it would turn or break free, but I'm also afread of doing some permanent damage.

Does it just pull out? How do you pull it?

Thank you,
Eddie

Eddie,

I know absolutely NOTHING about engines, diesel or otherwise. I had the idea of replying with a smart aleck answer - use an injector puller. Then, I went to Google to see if somewhere in that smart aleck idea there might be a thread of truth. All I can say is that there are diesel injector pullers out there. Whether or not there is one for your dozer or if yours would be removed with a puller, I haven't a clue. But give it a try. You never know.

There should be a "special tool" to "pry" the injector out. We had one when we did the 6-71. As well as I remember, it resembled a claw to pull nails out of a board but bigger......Check with Case, they should have one they can loan you....BobG in VA

Some you can get out with a heel bar. Some take a slide hammer that screws onto line fitting. That looks to be slide hammer type, but I don't want to steer you wrong because I'm not familiar with that particular engine, mostly much larger ones.

You were right. Cummins use a slide hammer type "injector puller" cj140

Now, someone might be able to make one cheaper by fabricating a metric nut "coupling" to a regular slide hammer. Or a piece of rod with a sliding weight welded to a metric nut.

Pipe nipple and a lug nut.

Seriously. The lug nuts on a Dodge truck are the same thread that is on the injector lines. Put the proper length pipe nipple over the injector and thread the lug nut on the end and it will jack the injector right out.

(I knew I saw it somewhere. Issue 52 of the Turbo Diesel Register.)

Great tip.

That is the greatest thing I've heard in a long time. It's like a true eureka moment. That guy needs a beer, you know the guy that couldn't figure out how to get the injector out so he just started looking around until a light bulb went on.

It's like the old saying about the 3 different people you want on a team. You want a really smart guy, that can do the math and solve equations. You want a really strong dumb guy, who will do the heavy lifting without asking questions. And you want the laziest guy you can find, because he'll always find an easier way to do it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
