Welding Up a Cracked Rim

Has anybody here worked on 1700psi pressurized heat transport equipment containing 250C contaminated and tritiated coolant? Personal airlocks are another. Ever figure the tons force on the walls and doors with just 1/2 atmosphere of pressure?

All the inspections we do are on Nuclear reactors, and piping components. However we use pressurized water to test the system prior to going online.
The water removes much of the volatility when compared to air, but none the less, when the unit is online the systems carry radioactive steam up to 1800 PSI on a PWR vessel, and various chemicals used in the industry.

Air is much more volatile under pressure than water.

I must state we also use additional methods of inspection to check the full volume of the welds and/or repairs to ensure their integrity.

Ya, why spend money on a new one when you can be unsafe for a lot less money.

I had assumed that most people knew a tank of compressed gas is more dangerous than a vessel 100% full of liquid. The 100% liquid tank just makes a brief splash when it ruptures. The ruptured gas vessel or parts there of, can fly far and fast.

useless statement.. not even a valid argument. It predisposes the possibility of a safe / correct repair, thus the argument itself starts from a non valid point.

Ok let me understand, this.. the little campbell Hausfeld air compressor in the basement I welded up 6 years ago is going to kill some fireman or policeman? Are you saying I need to chitcan the air compressor? Let's hear from some other people on here before I do that... And what the He77 does my love of money have to do with it? Your kinda pressing my buttons here, about the "blindly ignorant, and "love of money" things. You could have worded that a little kinder, don't you think?

KOua. Sorry but the Scrouge thing about the $$$ was not directed at you or any other person who doesn't put $$$ above a reasonable effort for safety. There are those out there however with zero regard for safety if it requires time, effort or $$$. Then there is also another group who has not heard tell that an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. They will spend more time and money repairing an old fence and chasing cattle. Then it would cost to build a new fence.

I am going to appoint myself site moderator on this thread and all of you lunatics have to listen to me. I'm the only one that makes any sense on this here Internet. So listen up. This thread is officially jacked up. And rule 34 article 2 says that if any thread is declared jacked up, it is closed. So all you nut cases go outside and drive your tractors or pick tomatoes or whatever, but no more bullshitt on this thread. Go outside and play. It's not healthy doing what you're doing here. Someone is gonna blow an O ring. Ok? So it's over. That's enough. No more bullcrap scientific explanations about how to weld a oakies tractor rim. MMH, you're fired!
