Well.... OUCH!

Did the unforgivable.... While working brush, I manage to poke a branch (I guess) up under my GC1715.... Unknown to me it bent a hydraulic line up against the drive shaft and drive shaft actually ground through the steel hydraulic line.... First clue was a trail of oil drops across the ground.... And yes its going to be a nasty job to fix... After looking at it its going to take removal of floor boards, ROPS, seat, and fender assembly.... Tractor is now sitting at dealer waiting repair estimate, after looking at it all weekend needed repair job is just to much for me..... Besides it was due for its next 250 hour hydraulics(HST) and front axle oil/fluid changes....
Yes there is a hose clamp on line, and yes there is a piece of rubber under clamp over hole in line, no its not a permeant fix, but it did slow the flow a lot so I could move it around and load it on trailer....And no the after market hydraulic filter guard would probably not have protected hydraulic line.... I guess moral of story is maybe one should inspect underside of tractor more often....

Not an issue with either of my Kubota M's. The only item 'hanging down' is the fuel line cross over for the saddle tanks and it runs inside a metal shield. Everything else is up between the frame rails.

Since I work mostly in the woods and on uneven ground I am glad my subcompact can't read.

Hope the bill isn't too bad Wrangler, just a bad location for that line without a shield.
Will need to check mine, not sure if my shield covers that line.

Well its good for you but hydraulic line on the MF is also up between the rails (about 3 inches above rail bottom) but when you poke the end of a stick up between the rails.....

Actually stick has to go up about 14-16 inches to get hydraulic line, the 6.7 inches is not real, mine has more room under it than that...

Have at least 12" of clearance between the ground and the bottom of my tractors and I don't make a habit of driving in the pucker bush either... Having said that both of mine have metal protective plates between the front axle and the oil pans from the factory.. I have worn the paint off the bottom of the oil pan from cutting hay.

My tractor came from the dealer with a custom built skid plate, glad it’s there but when working in brush there is no guarantee something won’t manage to get in where it’s not supposed to and cause problems.

A big stiff poker branch can really tear $ome $tuff up in a hurry. Sometime they can even rip a track off a CTL. Fix it and just be more careful in the future is all you can do.

Jt’s already at the dealer so it’s a moot point but from here it sure looks like you could splice in a union And a ew piece of tuning somewhere on either side of the leak. Maybe not pretty but not expensive either. But you are likely better off taking the route you did.

I hear you. My machine has ZERO exposed components under it. All plate steel front to back....

EXCEPT! (there's always an except!) there are a few 1" drain holes and a hole to get to the oil drain plug. Several times a stick has come up through that 1" hole in the footwell and stabbed me in the leg! Ouch! The chances are pretty slim, but if there's a way, it can happen.

That's the most ridiculous comment I've seen today. My opinion is all tractors are not made for clearing land but they are ALL made for running a bush hog. We all know the consequences of bush hogging and accept them, OP included but a tractor is made to do tractor stuff.
