Well pump question.

Back aways you said you had 'charged the pressure tank to 48psi" If you are referring to the precharge, it is way too high, correct would be about 26psi.

That shouldn't cause the problem though.

It sure sounds to me like one of two:

1. Worn impellers.

2. System has check vavle(s) that isolate the tank when the pump(s) are off and from each other (would take 3). The bad well has a leak somewhere between the pump and the tank checkvalve. That would be my guess. If feasible, try removing or disabling the tank check valve, run the bad well pump as high as you can and shut it off. If there is a leak, the pressure will drop.

I have two wells also. One is 200' deep the other is 300' deep. I use my boom pole with a pulley attached and hook the safety rope to the truck to pull the pumps. I use a tee I made from 1" pipe to go into the top of the pitless adapter. I attach it to the truck too. I can do it this way by myself.

What are you guys resting the pipe on as it comes out of the well, as you take off the. top 20' of pipe.

Don't you release tension, and then unscrew a section, then up again?

I'm getting the pull it with a truck, pulley's etc, but them what?

Out here they charge 1,500, just to pull the pipe.

Mine is not a pipe. It's a 1" plasic water line.

Plastic pipe here as well.

I have plastic too. The 1" galvanized pipe mentioned above is only used to lift the pipe in the well off the pitless adapter so that the pump can be pulled.

OK now I see when you guys are saying "pull the pipe out" - I'm scrathin my head going...how the heck are these guys doing it.

My pipe is 2" iron pipe, about 325' long, that's why I was wondering , geez these guys must be weight lifters, or something.

Out my way they want $1,500 to pull the pump, I'm wondering if I could just build a heavy duty tripod or something?

Yes a tripod would work but may be slow going if every 20 foot section has to be taken apart.

The fellows with the truck can pull the tubing and depending on how tall their rig is only have to break every second or so section.:D

Cat_Driver

Are you sure its 2" and not 1 1/2
Pipe Sizes Info - FAMOUS PLUMBING SUPPLY

Are you planing on using the steel pipe again?
I would put poly pipe back in if it were me.

if not pull it with tripod cut it off as needed then put back in with a safty rope and poly pipe.

To update my situation. It was not a leak in the line, worn impellers, nor a pressure tank problem. I pulled the pump and somehow the housing at the top of the pump had cracked. It was plastic. I bought a brand new 1hp submersible of Ebay for $165 shipped. Problem solved.
