Wix, wich also comes under the names napa, carquest. Use JD filters also, depends on what store I end up at. Those three brands cover most everything I own.

My Hyundai Santa Fe uses the same engine oil filter as my 790...... go figgure:D

With two new cars in the stable, I've decided to use OEM filters. So Honda filters in my wife's CRV, AC Delco filters in the new Chevy. And by dumb luck, my JD dealer is very reasonable on OEM filters, so JD filters on the tractor, though the tractor is 20 years out of warranty.

A poster above mentioned that Honeywell makes the OEM honda filters, which would logically be identical to a Fram. Just from outward appearance, heft and feel, they seem very different. The Honda filter is heavier and just feels better. Has a better gasket too. If I get a free moment, I have both at home that I can cut up to compare.

thanks for all your replys. i read them all and will continously take them in to consideration as i continue my vehicle oil changes through out my life. as for now i have decided to stick with fram tough guard series. the info i researched at fram covered all my concern areas and they couldn't legally sell them without that being true. the convienence of picking them up at wal-mart when i get there is also nice. it also makes sense that if a company sells so many more then their competitors, there is bound to be a higher NUMBER of customer complaints, but NOT necessarly a higher PERCENTAGE just due to having more of fram filters out there in use. they seem to be popular in my area at parts stores and like one reply said after a fram filter failure, "fram did make it right." meaning they paid for damages i believe. so i will stay with fram for now unless something i think is better comes along. thanks again.

Remember, Fram/Honeywell makes 3 grades of filters. The orange one is the low end, then they have a grey and black filter. Cant remember which is which but the basic orange is a 3,000 mile filter, the next is a 5,000 mile, and the other is a 7,500 mile filter. With each step up in quality they case gets heavier, paint better, and gasket better.

I think you made a wise choice. Just changed the oil on my Titan today and used a Fram filter and Castrol Syn-Tech 5W30.
