what brand of oil filter on your vehicles

I use the Donaldson elf7349 on my dodge cummins. Used to use the Fleetguard Stratapore (which is good) but switched when I found out the Donaldson is better. I'm using the oem JD filter on the tractor. I did a little research (not a ton though) and did not find anything indicating an upgrade with aftermarket.

Used to use Fram because their advertising sounded good. Talked to my mechanic and did some research on Fram and now use WIX. Won't go back to Fram.

i have been looking at the fram website, and they sure do advertise their filters good. (i know all companys do to sell their product, but everything on the fram website makes good sense to me) they covered every area i was concerned about. for the ones that have had trouble with fram, what do you think makes fram filters different then the others? are they built cheaper inside? what should i look for if i cut one open? has anybody out there ever had any trouble with the other filter brands: wix, napa, etc... i really appreciate everyone's replys so far.

While I do not doubt Fram filters have not failed on rare instances in the past i have not had any issues on well over 2000 oil changes. 100 changes or more for the past 20 years. While not every filter I have used has been Fram I would say 3/4 of the filters have been.

What you need to remember is Fram is by far the best selling filter out there. So yes, you are going to see a few more failures. They outsell all the other filter companies combined many times over. I would venture to guess they sell more filters in a month than most other companies do in a year.

Yes, I have had issues with a Wix (Napa) filter on a GMC Duramax. It was a spin on Diesel filter but a filter none the less. The end cap came loose and allowed the filter housing to seperate from the base where it threads on. I also had a gasket fail on a Purolator filter on a Lincoln. No damage was done to either vehicle but did make a mess both times.

I am not defending Fram and have no association with them but I have used 1000's of them and never seen a issue.

My Fords have K&N air filters and Motorcraft oil filters. The KW gets the NAPA Gold (WIX) or Luber-Finer. The rest usually get the NAPA filters.
The tractors usually get OEM. (JD and NH, respectively) But, I've also used the NAPA on them.
I've also had good results from the Baldwin, but there's no local distributor and I have to drive 40 miles to get them.

easy..fram, Toyo, Amsoil, Donaldson, Napa Gold, Wix, PureONe, Supertech, Bosh disance and some others.

All will go 7500 miles on a gaser. I do not want my money on expense filters.

I work on equipment, and truck engines, I have seen a problem with the FoMoCo filters, had a Purolator filter crack at the crimp line of the canister that was about 40 years ago and I use them since then.
99% of filters flow from the inside out, Cats secondary fuel filters flow from the outside in and are made by Donaldson, we had a batch of them fail, twisting and shutting the flow off.
Today the new Ford Pickups with the 6.7s have a problem with the fuel filters allowing water threw, destroying the injection system. Ford is not covering the damage, no mater the mileage. I have heard from $8,500 to $12,500 customer pays.
The $12,500 figure was from a Ford executive, out of Richmond BC.

I make it easy on myself, especially on vehicles under warranty. I use what they recommend. Ford-Motorcraft, GM-AC Delco. That way, if one fails, I can say it was what was recommended in the manual. Try to cover my butt.

I run the Mobil 1 M1-110 on all of our vehicles (Xterra, Forester, and JD 2320).. This was based on the oil filter study that I found online a few years ago saying the M1 was one of the better filters..

When I had my Dodge/cummins I only used fleetguard filters on it.

IIRC - the Fram 'Tough Guard' actually scored higher in the study (ie better quality construction) than the regular Fram filter

I was running the JD OEM filter on the tractor because it was cheaper ($8 vs $13 for the M1) but Advance Auto had the m1 filters on sale last month and I got a 10 for <$8 shipped - so im stocked up for a while
