What do you do with your Instant Pot you cant do with a crock pot?

Lentil soup tonight:

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp ground coriander
1 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp chili powder, optional
1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1 Tbsp tomato paste
1 large carrot, peeled and diced
2 stalks celery
1 1/2 cups brown or green lentils, rinsed and drained (300g)
1 15 oz can diced tomatoes, (400g)
6 cups chicken broth, (1.5l)
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, (450g)
salt and pepper

I will substitute a quart of my frozen tomatoes for the canned tomatoes and some of my previously cooked chicken for the chicken breast. :licking:

If "Pot Dispensaries" are deemed essential then surely "Rib Dispensaries" are too.

The last time I was in the grocery store (a week or so but seems like a month with this lockdown) there was not much of a selection of ribs. Hamburger, roasts, etc yes, but some of the specialized cuts were scarce. Placing orders now at the grocery store on line for pickup, I do not dare going in a store and drag home the virus given my wifes cancer and asthma. Residents from Seattle spill out to our county to get away from the virus. :banghead::banghead:

Pork Ribs at Safeway were plentiful yesterday in Silverdale. We made a run in... $3.99 not a great price for plain... I like to find it $2.99 but was nice is the already seasoned (whiskey/pepper or KC BBQ) were the same $3.99 price so we snagged a few. I like my own rubs but figured we would have a few lazy dinners. Thank god we are stocked up on Traeger pellets. Might have to try throwing them in the crock pot after the smoke?

Stay safe. My son is in Seattle and Lowe's is requiring him to work. They have been deemed "Essential" also and care nothing about their employees health.

Cowboy beans were great. I softened up 4 kinds of beans in the Instant Pot in less than an hour. Added them to the slow cooker along with hamburger, ham, bacon, hambone, onion and flavorings. As to the topic of the thread, softening dried beans tops the list. Reduces the lectins in the beans at the same time. This pic was going into the slow cooker. About 4 to 5 hours later it reduced down to perfect.

Wife wanted me do do roast in IP. When she read recipe, I said use crock pot. I didn’t have time to sear 4 sides, etc.

Turned out good.

We usually buy veggies when in season and vacuum seal and freeze. Green cabbage is a favorite for Corned Beef & Cabbage so we freeze about 10 heads a year. Normally, we would cut in half, core and then quarter, vacuum seal and freeze.

The last time we just cut the head in half, sealed and froze. Anyhoo, just cooked a very nice Corned beef in the Instant Pot, removed it when done and then threw in 2 halves of cabbage brought the pressure back up for 5 minutes and it turned out perfectly and the core was soft and sweet and very tender. Never would have softened enough to eat in the crock pot.

That stew does look GOOD!

I have dried beans cooking up right now for chili tonight. Sure is nice to be able to make a meal out of dried beans in a few hours and not have to soak and slow cook them for 2 days. I do my dried beans in the Instant Pot for 50 minutes and I put them beef stock rather than water. Then lately they go in the big pot on the stove with the hamburger, onions, celery, peppers, etc.

We put a small pork loin in the instant pot last night. I seared it in olive oil and garlic first, then put it on the rack with 1/4 cup of bottled teriyaki sauce and 1 cup of water under pressure for 20 minutes with a natural cool down. Served it with steamed vegetables, rice, and my wife made some kind of teriyaki sauce with brown sugar, honey, ginger and some other stuff. It was very good. :licking:
