I was out cutting firewood today and when I came in I looked at our email and there was one from Youtube TV telling me that I signed to get NBA League Pass. I recalled that being $40 a month so I asked my wife if she decided to like progressional basketball and signed up for League Pass. She said .... huh? I said .... I thought so.

So after about 20 minutes I discovered YouTube TV makes you get an app to manage your settings. And sure enough it had automatically added NBA League Pass. I checked my Paypal and no charge but I am sure 30days from now I would be seeing the $40 on there.

The way of the world these days, I know that but still irritates me. I am watching a Bruce Springsteen doc/movie on Netflix now which is nice even though I do not agree with his politics.

What kind of server farm are you running that needs that kind of bandwidth? I can't see how any residential customer needs even 25% of that speed. Really, what does it gain you?
Someone made the analogy with vehicles, and it's true. They push ever faster speeds, ever larger channel selections (most of which few ever watch), etc. for "only a few dollars more a month". Makes good advertising copy, but IMHO it's money thrown away.

This is the entry level service. The previous one was DSL at 1.2Mb. No, I don't "need" Gb service, but it's nice to almost never be limited by bandwidth no matter what we're doing. And Oh BTW, the FiOS was the same price as the DSL, until they raised it $5 a few months ago (after about 5 years at the same price).

I ended up signing up these to watch on ROKU :

Paid
-YouTube TV. Gets me FOXNews but it is not live, gets me a fair amount of sports, news and movies.
-Philo. Gets my wife her Hallmark channels, Animal Planet, BBC World News, that kind of stuff
-Netflix. Movies mostly

Free
- Pluto
- Xuno

That gets us everything we need and tons more. All while dropping my TV bill be around $100. It seems most of the channels get you some live TV and some movies. Some more of one than the other.

You should be getting fox news live either through the Youtubetv app or the Fox news app. I get it live through Hulu and the Fox news app.

Has anyone used a Tablo on their OTA antenna as a way to get it to different TVs in the house? I tried a powered splitter and it degraded the signal to the point I lost most of the stations. Tablo would make it digital into an Ethernet port on my cable modem (as I understand it) and ROKU would pick it up on the different TVs (we have 4).

Yep, and its awesome. I record gunsmoke and bonanza every day and watch them at night ffwd through the commercials. :)

Read about my setup here..... https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/409657-sanity-check-you-cord-cutters.html?highlight=tablo

I use this - only streams to 2 TVs simultaneously but has DVR function as well (you provide external hard drive).

I don't know anything about tablo or how mine compares to it for price or features. I know mine integrates with Sling so my OTA channels show up in guide and other channel lists just like the sling stations. I don't have to switch inputs for OTA or Roku - it's all just right there and works thru sling app for me so the simplicity gets an A+ from me :)

That looks like it interfaces with ROKU as well, however it mentions Sling a lot. Do the OTA stations come in tacked onto the Sling feed? I do not have Sling.

I picked up a Tablo Dual Lite tonight. I need to get a USB hard drive before I can try it out. I thought I only needed that to record, but it looks like I need it for live TV as well. Best Buy had the ROKU Stick+ for $49 so I picked up one of those as well for the last TV.

Well today I received an email from Paypal that I had an extra $40 charge (plus tax) from Google. I went online and repsond to Google (Youtube) asking what was going on. They responded saying that I signed up but cancelled it too late and because of that, that I owe the $40. Maybe there was a clause buried in there that I was automatically signing up for league pass unless I specifically opted out that I never saw, but I never intended to sign up. So we will see. Maybe I unwittingly owe $40, but this stains Youtube in my mind. If I can find another lineup we like I will now change in a heartbeat. Choices are nice. YouTube is bad.
