Buying Advice What SHOULD I buy? Many questions from a newbie...

Here's my perspective,
I have 100 acres of trees, rocks and hills in the Ozarks. I'm hacking out a home site and building a retirement home. I've never farmed or owned a tractor but my first purchase was a CUT tractor.

I have about 250 hr on the tractor and can't imagine being without it.
So far, has done everything I expect it to do.

OK I stopped at the local Bobcat dealer...

I sat on some tractors, spoke extensively with the manager directly...

He has offered me a CT450 w/FEL & 72mo 0% for ~$26,500.

49hp, pto 38hp, 2600lbs lift in the bucket.

Nice man, comfy seat (he upgrades all the seats on the lot), and a nice tractor.

Plus he is very close, ~10 miles or so.

Thoughts?

I plan to visit Kubota and Kioti at a minimum before I decide.

Shuttle shift or hydrostatic tranny? If hydrostatic, be sure to check out the go pedal to see if you like the feel and responsiveness when transitioning from foward to reverse.

If you decide on this one, get the dealer to include a pair of rear hydraulic remotes and get him to weld chain hooks/stiffener to the FEL bucket at no cost.

I paid $26,800 for Kubota M5040 4x4,shuttle,quick attach ldr....(in july)50.5hp &45pto,comes with 1 set of hyd.

Also check with other dealers of the same brand, specifying the exact same tractor and get a price, even if it's just over the phone. You have no way of knowing if that price is in line unless you compare. (apples to apples)

FWIW, between those three, I would probably go for the Kubota. They've been around a long time and have a great reputation. Plus, parts are readily available and there are hundreds of dealers nationwide. As the above post by ETx confirms, you are in the Kubota's price range.
Parts for some other tractors are hard to come by. A couple of examples:
1) A local guy bought a Mahindra. While under warranty, something about the rear axle housing broke. His tractor sat in the shop for nearly 3 months, waiting on a part that had to be shipped from India. It didn't cost him anything, but he was without a tractor for a while. BTW, the local Mahindra dealer has changed owners and locations 3 times in the last 5 years.
2) A friend of mine bought a used Kioti last year. (about a 70 hp model) It was only about 3 or 4 years old. The thermostat stuck and it overheated. No damage done, just needed to replace the thermostat. Come to find out, the thermostat on that Kioti was "built-in" to a plastic coupling. Had to order it from the dealer. Cost about $140! and he had to wait about a week for it to come in. (he sold the Kioti at an auction a couple of months later)
I'm not kicking any brands here, just telling some experiences that I've heard and seen.

As I said in a previous post to this thread, I would stick with a major brand tractor that has a good support network of well established dealers with good parts inventories. If man made it, it will eventually break, and you will need parts and/or service.

Hi David, welcome to the forum. Learned half of what I know about tractors on this site. I think you have a Kioti dealer near Mineral, VA, a few miles off interstate 64W. If you are in Ladysmith you are not to far away. Look at the CK series and the DK series tractors. You will not be disappointed with any of the top brands. Look for a dealer that makes you comfortable and fits your budget.

WOW! My local large Kubota dealer last spring quoted me ~$24,000 for an L3400. A good freind of mine bought a M5xx with a cab (heat & ac) big tractor, for ~36,000.

I just assumed I would not be able to afford a kubota (frankly I'm not sure I can afford this Bobcat either).

I'm still doing the numbers myself...

I will definately hit Kubota.

PS - The Bobcat dealer cobnfirmed Kioti build the bobcat, but he also said that the BC, Kioti and Kubota had a ton of common parts, and that they were all Korean. I was positive Kubota was Japanese. Am I wrong?

I'm not Flusher, but rear remotes are quick connect points for auxilary hydraulic attacments. They are used to operate hydraulic cylinders on 3pt hitch or towed equipment. (such as the wings on a bat-wing brush-hog, tailgate on round hay baler, etc)

The remotes are above the PTO guard, between the 3pt hitch lift linkages.

Price vary alittle from were u are located but around 24 or 25000 you could get the Kubota mx5100 4x4 with ldr with hst. Check out normangeetractor.com and just look at there ad
