What you got?

can appreciate what your saying, i love my b2400 for ease of operation and performance, but my old 2n has s special place in my heart, she just sounded nice. that ols 6volt system always sounded like it was a dead battery, but she always started. was a bear to steer tho, and not that easy on the old legs for shifting. the new tractors are great , but don't know how many of them will still be working after 50+ years.

You're right!!
There is something special about a 50 year old tractor. Mine hasn't let me down yet, and I can now add snowplowing to it's many tasks. I really have no need or desire for a "modern" tractor!

RICH: i really had no DESIRE for a modern tractor, but the need was there. i need to give my old arms a break from steering that beast, needed to give my legs a rest from the constant clutching and shifting. the bota is such a pleasure to operate. but it wll never replace the ford 2n. MR. Ford and Mr. Ferguson made one hell of a tractor/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Frank, that's interesting. I find mine easy to steer. Maybe because I've driven trucks all my life. As far as shifting and clutching, I do almost everything in third gear, so basically the only time I shift is to go in reverse. I guess since I've never used a new tractor, I don't know what I'm missing. I'll try to make a point of never using a new tractor, then I'll always be satisfied!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

EXACTLY RICH! i used mine a lot for moving snow. and between clearing the 2 drives and at corner wher mail box is, i was constantly going forward then dump, shift and go back, then shift and go forward etc. and that old fel just put so much weight on the front it was bear to steer,.. did not used to be so hard a few years back. do u think i might be getting old?/w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Just found this part of the board! I occasionally comment on the Customizing board and the JD owning/operating board.

My antique is a 1938 McCormick-Deering F14. I use it to haul trailers for various tasks, and have a 1950 John Deere H manure spreader, a '49 or '50 (not sure) Allis-Chalmers #3 sicklebar mower and an unidentified old disk harrow I pull with it as well.

After a complete rebuild, it starts first or second crank and runs like a top. I try to find an excuse to use it at least once a week year around. In fact, I should probably clean out the chicken coop tomorrow...

Wow, I just looked at all the great photos in this thread! Thought I would add one more! Here is my 59' Oliver 550 with FEL. I sold it to get my first Kubota about 8 years ago. I still can't believe I used that to finish cut my 5 acres every week!

It's a '38. The rear wheels/rims/tires are off a Farmall H. They were on it when I bought the tractor.

Not sure what it would originally have had. Could have been either steel, 36", 38" or 40" rubber. Judging by the gearing, I'd guess 40" rubber.

Found a set of 40" centers with one good rim. Priced another rim and a set of tires with tubes. 40" tires are VERY rare, and a repro set would have cost me $1500 with shipping and tubes./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I decided to keep the H stuff, as the tires were basically brand new anyway /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Yea, there are times when I wish I still had it, but it was just too big for my needs now. I paid $2600 and used it for 5 years and sold it for $4500! I needed 4WD for my ice rink, as the chains on the beast just dug holes in the ice. Plus the PTO was always on, as the shift fork for it was broken. I had a new fork, but you had to split the tractor to change it. I figured if I ever needed to put a clutch in it was the time to change the fork. Never needed a clutch so it was always spinning, not that safe when using a mower on the back! It also didn't have power steering and the loader was always on, so it was quite a chore cutting the grass every week. The photo was taken right before I sold it after giving it a fresh paint job and new stickers.

Hi All,
I'm brand new to this site as of tonight and am very impressed.
As to What you got, I'm also a new owner of either a large garden tractor or a small farm tractor. It's a 1974 Power King 2414 3 speed and hydraulics. It has 24" ag rear tires and weights in at about 1500" . Weather in Pennsylvania hasn't been very ablidging this winter so haven't had an oppertunity to use the 5' "V" snow plow that came with it.
this site seems to be just what I need. With the implement and build it yourself sections.
I'm sure you will see my two cents worth from time to time and I know I'll have a question or two
See Ya

internationlman,
My Dad has a 300 Utility he is slowly bringing back to life, as much as it is just something for him to do, I think he wants to play with it at some of the local Fair tractor pulls.
