Which 48\" box scraper

Hi all. I'm looking for a box scraper to take care of my gravel drive and finish grading some areas around a new addition. I have a B-7500 to pull it with and after talking to the dealer I've decided to go with a 48 inch unit. But the question now is which 48" unit. Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the guys with the 7500 around here use a 5' boxblade but you seem to be set on the 4'. I'm in the market for a 4' to use with my BX22 so I'm going to follow this thread for sure. Did your dealer say you couldn't use a 5' or is it just because you need to fit in tight areas?

I picked up the United/Leibach box blade, 48" for around $350 (plus or minus, it was bundled with the tractor deal).

Here's a pic of it on the dealer lot. You can see in the background they make a 5' also. Make sure you are looking at the "HD" model. The 48" weighs arounds 325 pounds.

The dealer told me to get a four because he said the 7500 would struggle to pull anything larger. I'm thinking he may have a overstock of fours to get rid of. That leads me to another question. Do you think the 7500 would do well with a 5 footer? I think the five footer would do a better job of covering my wheel marks.

I'm not that informed on the footprint of the 7500, but I think you'd be better off with a 5'. Those who own the 7500 will be able to let you know for sure.

I think the B7500 should handle a 5' boxblade for most jobs. For the grading work you mention, I would think that you would want the widest your tractor could handle.

If you want to split the difference, I believe Kubota lists a couple of different 54" boxblades for their B-series Kubota B-series Implements , but I have no idea how the price compares to other mfgs.

(Hmmmm....I hope that link works. That's the first time I tried a link with the new system. Sure seemed easy.)

My guess is an aftermarket 60" will probably be less then Kubota's 54".

You might want to read this thread. It has lots of info on 5' box blades which I think would apply to 4' box blades as well.

Hmmmmmm, nope, I would get the 4 foot box blade. My 2410 can struggle at times with a 4 footer. I have the Kubota 48 7548. I like it. It would be nice if it stuck out further on each side but it covers my tracks! I do not believe that you would get full utility from a larger blade on so small a tractor. Yes, you could pull it in places under some conditions and do some work with it but NOT the full range of work that a boxblade is capable of doing when matched with an appropriate tractor. Ok, if it were a light 5 footer with low sides it might work. Yeah, I know they are going to jump me--and that is OK but I would stick with a nice heavy duty 4 foot unit on a 7500, maybe a 52/54 if you found such a thing might work also. I do a lot with my boxblade. Today I had a trench dug to bury electrical and water lines to my new shop etc. They will leave the trench open for me to back fill--it will be the boxblade that does most of this work and recontours the area afterward. I can move a full box of dirt, soil, rock, I can dig with the rippers down in hard clay but it is a struggle, if I had a 60 inch unit I doubt I could do these things nearly as well. I have a 4' box blade that I picked up new for around $325.
It only has three scarifiers when most I've seen have 4. It's not a huge heavy duty model but it'll handle all the soil conditions around my place which has few rocks. I haven't used it to amount to anything but one of these days boy do I have plans.

My box blade is a not name only the dealers name but it's painted with the Landspride color.

Another use is the box blade is an excellent counter weight if you have a FEL.

I'd stick to Kubota recommendations on the size, unless you have softer soil conditions or you get a lighter weight 5' unit.
It's a weight thing. Stay within safe working limits and there's never no need to abuse a Kubota.

I am also currently in this dilemma. I can get a King Kutter 48" for $279 or I can get a Frontier which weighs a hundred pounds more for $480. Thats a big difference. Is the extra weight worth it?
