Comparison Which manufacturer has the highest HP true HST tractor?

I currently own a L4701 and would like to get into at least into the 60s HP for my next tractor. I know about the L6060 but am not familiar with any other 60+ HP HST models. Can anyone help me?

Used would have been the Versatile or Ford bi directional.
New any of the larger ones with a CVT.
Most of those may be a bit larger then you want.
The Farmall C series has a CVT and 53 hp.

AS LouNY said, you will have a hard time to find agricultural tractors 60+ HP with HST it is not robust enough for that, but you'll find KVT in the case of Kubota or CVT in other makes or PS (power shift)

For new production, true Hydros cap out in the mid 60s, then it becomes a question of if CVT is close enough in function to count. If it is, I think somewhere around 600-700 HP is the limit.

JD 4066s 66 engine HP and 54 PTO HP in both R and M. Both models weigh 3770lbs with ROPS. R Cab weighs 4675lbs.
Massey 1760M 60 engine HP-44.4 PTO HP. 3968lbs ROPS and 4464lbs Cab.
Kioti NX6010-60 engine HP and 48.3 PTO HP. 4211lbs ROPS 4548lbs Cab.
Mahindra-Their product line is impossible to decipher for me. Pass.

Massey is very PTO inefficient. 74%. Everyone else is in the 80s, with Kubota handily winning, being 85.5% or 88.3% efficient, depending on if you look at gross or net engine HP. No other manufacturer lists net vs. gross engine ratings that are easily found, so I'm unsure which they advertise.

Kubota and JD are the clear front runners. Though I do want to know where all that weight, 905lbs of it, comes from when you jump to the 4066R cab. Clearly a bit of an outlier.

Fendt 207 Vario has the best transmission there is, stepless from 0.02 to 40km/h but not particularly cheap to buy.

Sounds like another good option along with the JD and Kubota.

At that point it would have to come down to features and ergos.

Not sure the basis for your assessment that the iHMT is easier to service. All of my hydros have only required filter and oil changes.

Yanmar is short on info about this setup. They do provide a video demonstrating the features. This setup appears to be a electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) with power shuttle for direction changes.

Given the fairly vocal group against electronic controlled emissions systems, I'm sure this additional electronic control will be a further turn off for that group.

If I were in the market for a new tractor, I'd certainly give it a look though! It looks to be a very versatile setup.

I think Yanmar's claim to fame with this transmission is that if it requires"major" service it is easier;tractor doesn't have to be "split".Normal filter changes should be similar to HST.Wish we had a dealer close I would be interested to check one out.

800+ hp dozers run HSTs. It's not that they aren't strong enough. It's that bigger than CUTs efficiency matters a bit more than convenience. Bigger machines tend to be ag machines rather than utility machines.

I was under the impression that most of them where 3 or 4 speed automatics or power shift transmissions.
Which ones are hydrostatics?

Many large Ag tractors are Infinitely Variable. Probably not oil driven. Too much heat and hp loss. Not to mention noise!

Ya, good article. It's from 2007, so not exactly a recent development either (regarding lots of HSTs in big machines). The downside to HST has always been cost/complexity & efficiency.

Sometimes it's worth it (big time for CUTs) when precise control & manuverability is paramount. Sometimes not (big ag tractors) where they just pull a huge plow or impliment in circles all day at the same speed.

I think the current crop of CVTs is closing in on the efficiency of geared machines while still giving the control of a HST. I havent seen any in the CUT market yet, but I believe there are a handful in the UT range. Not sure what the price premium is, but I bet it's a bit as essentially you have a small HST ontop of a geared transmission that's more complex than a clunker 3 speed on every HST (at least in the CUT range).

The noise must come from bad design, larger equipment with hydrostatic drive dosent whine like microtractors, know only one Kubota BX and the noise is very unpleasant.
