I bought a new 1538 with the tier 4 engine. I traded in a Deere 790 as I needed more hp and lift capacity. The 1538 does not smoke at start up as the 790 did and the exhaust is much cleaner while operating. So I for one would recommend buying what is available. There is some value to me of not smelling like diesel exhaust or stinking up the barn. I think that I saw on one of the promotional videos that the new 15xx series weighs around 700# more than the 36xx.

As Davestractor said, you're not spending $3k more for tier 4, you're gettin a bigger machine too.

The 1533/38 loader is as little nicer with an integrated loader valve, a little more weight and length to the tractor which makes it more stable, a new style HST pedal that really works, more HP....it is for sure more tractor. No doubt there is a Tier IV penalty, but if you figure some value on the other improvements, the Tier IV upgrade might be more like $1500 of that $3000 or so difference. And no DPF, so no real downside other than the $$.

I would also put a big check on the "pros" column due to the fact the new engine is the same engine as is used in the 40 and 50HP tractors, just turned way down. Seems to me if all the bearings and whatnot are made to take a lot more pressure than what it produces in the 1533/38, the engine should last near forever.

I appreciate all the advice and comments but I was already stretching my budget for a 3016 so I will check out the 26xl a little more seriously . Thoughts on that model I know I will need to take more time to complete tasks.

New member here and today I bought a new 3016 Shuttle with FEL and added the BS-5 box scrape. I ultimately decided against the HST for several reasons some technical, some personal preference, cost, etc. Will be delivered next week and am looking forward to putting it to work. Like others, I was on the fence about the MAX 28XL since my initial thoughts were to get a decent sized tractor with FEL and Mid-Mount-Mower. I'm sure I could get an additional rebate and also get the BH but just not something I'd use a lot although would be a nice option to have. Boy was I surprised at how much a mid-PTO driven mower costs on these tractors. I'll just keep mowing with my JD LX277 which is about 12 years old and is a perfect yard machine. But once I started thinking about the tractor itself and all the things I could do "easier" with the 3016, it made more sense to spend just a little more and get the bigger tractor. In the end, I felt the 3016 was the best overall value for my needs. I looked at the 1533 as well but just couldn't justify the extra $3k+ for my purposes plus the Tier 3 is well proven technology.

So, reeltime I saw that you were having a tough time finding a 3016 on the east cost. Well my dealer is Vanco Equipment Services in Henderson, NC and they had quite a few (maybe 10). I think they had 2 maybe 3 HSTs left. While, I am on the subject, I just want to give kudos to the dealer for what was one of the easiest, relaxed and most informative sales interactions I have had in a long time. These guys treated me very well and I just wanted to give them some recognition for that. They also offered free deliver and since I'm local (1 hour away) the first two service intervals are free. That was just icing on the cake for me but much appreciated. Looking forward to enjoying this new tractor and learning more here on the forums.

Thanks,

Chad

Hello chad I started looking at the 26xl then I saw the 3016 was in for service asked about it checked spec decided it was worth the extra money but can't locate one in my area. I am not new to tractors owned 3 kubotas in the past so I know I can use the 26xl to do what I need to do it will take a tad longer.
