WHICH ROOT RAKE/GRAPPLE ?

Great!
Thank you.
That would seem to mean if I used a 785 lb. grapple that I would have a potential lift capacity of 1615 lbs.
I will have to think some more about that.
I very much like the idea of lighter, but of course, I like the idea of stronger too.
I would really like 1/2" steel on the end teeth. If the others are only 3/8" that would be OK.

There do not seem to be many manufacturers of 66" full width lid grapples that have open bottom teeth.
I would really like to have some others to compare.

I would not recommend purchasing a piece of equipment that has friction joints with no grease fittings. If you arent lifting rocks, then the only thing left is wood. How high do you plan on lifting wood? Your capacity a few inches off the ground is probably close to 4000 lbs. How high do you need to carry stuff around?

Your Land Pride certainly does look like a very nice grapple.

The problem for me though would be the tooth design.
I need the longest teeth possible, and spaced much wider than those appear to be.

I need to reach into trees/bushes to hook/snag the bittersweet vines, yet keep the actual damage to the trees/bushes to a minimum.
I am thinking longest possible teeth, with tooth spacing at 11" or slightly more.
Any more closely spaced teeth will likely pull/break off branches of the trees/bushes themselves.
It would be nearly impossible for me to grab the bittersweet at ground level, but I can grab it much higher on the tree/bush, where it is actually weaving it's choking vines up through the tree/bush.

If I can snag the vines, curl up or down, and pull up, some will break off, but when the ground is moist, most vines will cleanly rip out.
Getting rid of bittersweet (like kudzu) is a reoccurring problem.
It will eventually grow back, and need to be ripped out again.
The $3400, 141hp tested, 660 pound Wicked 66" root rake grapple you refer to... Best Rated 66 Inch Wicked Root Rake Grapple from Everything Attachments.. is a nasty, beastly, bad to the bone chunk of most premium materials money can buy. If someone with an L48 planned to be rough and desires bomb proof, then I couldn't argue, but I'd also tell you to take a serious look at the 60".. Best Rated 60 Inch Wicked Root Rake Grapple from Everything Attachments .. , which is 400 pounds and also features similar materials, only a bit thinner and scaled down.
Longer teeth with wider spacing? Sounds like you're describing the EA Xtreme Root Rake Grapple.. Tractor Loader Root Rake Grapple by Everything Attachments I'm on vacation this week, so my posting skills on my phone aren't great, but I feel like our offerings needed to be clarified. Also, I hear we'll be offering a 5% off Cyber Monday discount. Travis . Screenshot_2019-11-28-12-44-29.png

I wish.
Your EA root rake has tubular horizontal cross members welded between teeth, both top and bottom.
Nice looking rake, but to best snag the bittersweet vines I feel they need to be able slide all the way in to the very rear of both the top and bottom teeth.
The tubular cross members would prevent the vines from getting to get the rear of both the top and bottom teeth.

I bought this one a couple of years ago. I haven't had any problems moving brush and logs. I was able to pick it up at the factory where it was made. The price was better than most I've seen.

Tomahawk Attachments :: Tomahawk 66" Two Cylinder Brush Grapple

The cross tubes welded between the teeth make this grapple design unacceptable for me.
I need the vines to be able to slide firmly against the very back of the bottom grapple teeth for my use.
I want a single lid, and want relatively high placed cross tubes at the lid teeth also.

I may have found something that will work for me from an attachment mfg. in NC., though I will need to ask if they can add zerk fittings, or modify it myself.

you might be able to latch on to some of them, but pulling them out without cutting them off at the bottom first
I think will be your challenge. I know you want the roots out, but like
the old lady asking "where's the beef?",
I'd ask where's your grip?

I don’t think my Favor is going to let go of much that a single lid would have caught. It covers the teeth pretty good and the lids overlap. IMG_7872.JPGIMG_7873.JPG

Yes I was thinking this also. You could also just use forks if you just care about the vines sliding all the way down. However, no grip.

There actually will be no real "grip".
It will be just a case of snagging enough of the twisted vines to get them caught tightly enough in the grapple tines to be able to pull.
Some of the vines will actually rip out from the roots, some of the vines will break off at or above the roots, and some will slip through.
So be it!
Better than nothing....I think.

I have never mastered the TBN picture thing, but if interested, here is what I am thinking might work for me.

The pivot wear points do not have zerks, and with A36 steel, that is an issue that must be resolved.
