Who rides a motorcycle?

/ Who rides a motorcycle? #81
Rode for about 10 years, had 6 different street bikes, the last was a 2003 R6. It just got too dangerous with all of the idiots on their cell phones and not paying attention, so I gave up riding in 2005. I do miss it. :(

The term "Suicide Clutch" refers to the foot pedal clutch originally used on the Harley and Indian three wheelers or Servi-cars, the bikes with the box on the back, used primarily by police or for parcel delivery. Having three wheels, with no balance required, the foot clutch was no problem.Standard bikes came equipped with a "Rocker Clutch" consisting of a toe and heel pad on an arm that pivoted in the center. The rocker clutch would stay in whatever position you placed it. To use the rocker clutch you would depress the rear pedal, place the bike in gear with the tank mounted shifter then depress the front pedal to start moving. Early custom builders would remove the rocker clutch and install a clutch off a Servi-car and usually remove the tank shift and install a hand shifter directly off the transmission. The hand shifter directly off the tranny was called a "Jockey Shift". This set up required the operator keep the foot pedal depressed while the bike was in gear, leaning on the right foot. If the rider lost balance and began tilting to the left. he would have to take his foot off the depressed clutch pedal and the bike would lurch forward, sometimes into traffic, such as at an intersection, that is where the term "Suicide Clutch" came from. Hope this helps.

The first picture is the type of bike I learned on.

I learned on a Honda QA-50 too! That was such a well mannered bike for all to learn on. had several bike through the years, gave up riding while in the service for twenty years because I was a single parent. Now I'm back on a bike and couldn't pass up my 09 FLTR (roadglide). Now I want a chopper :D

Deep-N-Dirt-- really nice looking 30-year-old bike!

Mine are so-so; I try to keep them clean, but they could all use a bit more cosmetic "spiffing up." Yours looks like it just came off the showroom floor!

I have a 98 Honda VFR800. Heated grips extend the riding season up North. I have to admit it sees less and less riding time each year it seems.

QA50--that was a internet pict i found; but ours was the same. It taught countless kids how to ride a bike; the city kids from Seattle and Navajo''s from Arizona. that bike started the love...

I enjoy riding but I have a hard time making time to do so anymore.

My old job, My commute was only 20 miles, daylight hours, and rural roads.

Currently I am commuting 35 miles one way, mostly freeway, and in the city. Not as enjoyable to ride.

And my bike gets 45MPG, at the old job I was driving a 16MPG truck, so I rode to save gas. I now have a saturn that gets me 40-43MPG. So I really cant justify riding to save money. When my 4 wheels with AC and Heat does nearly as good.

But I still get out on ocassion just to cruise. And I also enjoy taking it to the local 1/8th mile dragstrip. Best pass was 7.87@92.45MPH

1983 Honda V65 Magna.

Here is the reason I don't ride anymore.....Traffic and other stupid drivers that make left turns in front of oncoming riders along with a general disregard for motorcycles...

This fella was only 39 yrs. old and this happened about 30 miles from me..
Motorcyclist ejected, killed in Newton County crash | ajc.com

If I gave up riding for that reason, I might as well quit walking too. Ride/walk defensively, but ride on!

I just gave my opinion on the dangers of riding in today's traffic with the obvious disregard many car drivers have for motorcycle riders.

Like I posted I rode professionally and loved every minute of it...I could not believe someone would actually pay me to do it. Looking back at the dangerous situations I was in gives meaning to be being young and bullet proof.

Just be safe and remember how hard you are to see and how little respect for the danger most motorists have and show. Good riding...:)

My oldest Son was a rider until he and his wife were going to eat lunch at 30 MPH and a old lady run the red light and the Motorcycle t-boned the side of the car. Son broke his hip in 3 places and wife came out lucky with cuts and bruises. He has swore off them and I am glad. One less thing to worry about. It is the other driver you have to watch out for and sometimes, that don't even help. Ken Sweet
