Why are Massey ferguson and Yanmar so much more than TYm for what seems like less??

I knew a schoolteacher who scrimped and saved for many years, he drove a Datsun, but he dreamed of owning a Mercedes. When he retired, he sold the Datsun and bought a new Mercedes, and within a year the shocks were leaking oil and the power windows quit working.

The nearest Mercedes dealer was over a hundred miles away... He told me he wished he had his reliable Datsun back!

He had to pay for the new shocks until Mercedes inspected them, and then if they decided they weren't abused, the dealer would then reimburse him!

I agree with dealer support, if your dealer is more than 2 hrs away, it gets expensive quick to have them repair a tractor. I own a 2014 LS XR4046 and had no problems until recently, and for my money I paid for the tractor, I probably would not do it again, no brand bashing LS but they are close to the same when it comes to emissions and ECU. On mine, only 650 hours and it quit, would only run for 3 minutes at a time, dealer said ECU and emissions system need replacing to the tune of $4,000 + and months of waiting for the parts to come in, way out of warranty. Since it was a tier 4 shibaura engine with no electrical injectors, no choice but to by pass the ECU and gut the emissions. I refuse to pay for even more money for parts that fail with so little hours on a meticulously maintained tractor. A little by pass wiring, a throttle control cable and its now running completely without the ECU and emissions garbage. This left a very sour taste in wallet and my advice is if you can find an older non emissions tractor that will suit your needs, do it. As long as the tractor has 3pt, power steering, 4x4, loader or whatever you may need, the easier for you to repair the better. I will never buy a new tractor again as long as the EPA has their grip on the tractor industry including a JD with the right to repair etc. NO thank you. When you get stuck out in the field and you need to finish with one of these newer tractors you cannot even work on, you will be kicking yourself in the behind over n over. Just my 2 cents.

So, dealer support is not a bad thing, but I'd be far more co corned about Parts support. 10-15 years from now, you need a critical, machine specific part, and there were so few machines built, and a half butted parts run, that a machine needs scrapped.

Now, I would think you'll be able to find a starter, alternator, even a hydralic pump, crossing part numbers, and all that, but a steering gear box, or a front axle casting part...

For the engine, I'm sure Yanmar had Far more cross items, given TYM/Mahindra/JD/Thermoking, ect run their engines;

I should add, Hinomoto made Masseys are orphans as far as I know; old MF 1040, and similar generation.

Why? If you purchase expecting it to break you obviously have made a poor choice. I purchased two jd 790's 26 years ago and have never needed service from them other than universal ground cables, batteries and tires. You do get what you pay for, you buy kmart you get Kmart. Kia and Hyundai are cheaper for a reason, they are disposable garbage. My 1983 Mercedes w126 is still my most reliable and comfortable ride, 30 mpg, not fast but we have a speed limit so a moot point. I buy a quality brand, I am buying their engineering. I could not care less about a dealer, they are hit or miss at best, they hire and fire staff service personnel like mc donalds. They are mostly parts cannon techs who don't want dirty hands. If the computer doesn't fix it buy another. Heaven forbid you have to look inside where the parts move and are covered in oil. Nothing overbuilt has ever broken!
Well, even the best designed and quality equipment breaks, needs parts and needs dealer only service (computer flash, ect…). People are kinda SOL when the nearest dealer is 500+ miles away. Plus I like stopping in to get filters and other maintenance items instead of always ordering and paying shipping.

Your paying for the name , dealer support and better quality control. I tride a TYM for a short while, they are designed well but the quality , fit and finish , dealer support was poor. Looked at kioti and ls, decided on ls . They seem to have the best quality of the korean brands, they make tractors for new holland and ive been more than happy with my ls. I did look at a mahindra 1626 and some people are happy with them but it looked like a turd. Mahindra uses rubber hydraulic hose every where, instead of formed hard lines, control lay out was not thought out and was over priced compared to the korean tractors.

A lot comes down to components. Things like hydraulic pumps and valves can get costly fast. Example price a Rexroth valve vs chinas. Huge difference.

As another stated some things as well like hard lines vs flexible hoses add to cost. Don’t forget standard features. I chose my ls due to it having 3 remotes, diverter , fully loaded. A comparable kubota was al carte and would have run me another 20k plus.

Any choice you make , ensure you have a good dealer near you. My original dealer sucked but a newer closer place carry’s ls and has done my warranty work.

Oh, something we all forgot, I think our OP is in the US, But. We have members in Tanzania, India, Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, ect.

There was a gentleman from Romania, starting a 2000 acre farm in Tanzania, considering Duetz-Fahr vs Massey. In his situation, 100% Massey, for a reason most people Never think about. Parts, vs international affairs, and the random whims of who to sanction today. In his specific case, Tanzania does something or things about it (I think the US/EU threatened sanctions like 2 months later, over "concerns about election transparency").

Duetz-Fahr parts all come from 3 places, Germany, France, Italy, and they are puppets. Massey, parts come from US/Japan/India/Brazil, ect. And there are other machines in over 100 countries. Even with sanctions, you'll be able to get parts.
