Why are there so few rear discharge F Kubota mowers around?

The point is that some feel that the rear discharge is causing engine high temperature, not side discharge. With side discharge you get filthy dirty and itchy to the max. In my case, with present SD both me and my ZT get filthy dirty but, no cooling issues because mine is air cooled.

Temp gauge works great but a blower when you're done has kept me from having any temps higher than 2-3 bars.

I never have an issue with overheating or anything with my SD. I get a lot of debris stuck to the outside but I mow for several hours and never have a temperature issue.

I am however, ALWAYS filthy. I'm out in the country and it doesn't matter what I do, I'm covered with dust, clippings, poison ivy etc. I have the mulching kit also. DOES YOUR MULCHING KIT HAVE THE GRASS CHUTE PLATE COVERING IT???? IF SO, YOU STILL GET COVERED WITH GRASS CLIPPINGS???? I HAVE THEM ON MY BX2370-1 AND HAD THEM ON A Z121 AND I NEVER GOT ANY GRASS CLIPPINGS ON ME.:eek:

The only time I'm good is if everything is really tall, then I have a better chance to drive ahead of the clippings before they blow back on me, OR if it is slightly damp and everything wants to fall down and not go into the air.

In 10 years of F ownership I've had the hot beeper go off once and my wife said it went off on her one time but that was before I started blowing it off after evry three hour mowing session with a leaf blower. I used to use a wand on my air compressor but the leaf blower is the best for me and my grandson:D. The temp issue shouldn't be an issue for anyone on an F if they just use a little cleaning of the vent holes on the cover between mowings.

My RD has never been higher than 2 bars on the temp guage and the radiator and screen do not collect clippings.

I don't have a grass chute plate to cover the opening. It still discharges to the side. Since I purchased used, I asked my dealer how I could tell if I had anything extra on the deck. He said to add the F5277 baffle kit. He included a picture and my deck has that - so it seems I have the "baffle kit" and not the mulching kit. I had to dig up my email to remind me it's the "baffle" kit.

What does a baffle kit look like or do? I can't find any pics around.

This shows a picture with the mower deck flipped up?ou should have this baffle bolted to underside front of deck (the one end towards the discharge chute is little bent in-someone most have hit something) Some of the earlier models did not have this baffle and could be added for the $80.00. you other objective is to make sure the deck is mowing level front to back this adjustment should have been done at the dealer when it was new (takes a special gauge to do this). We have on a couple of units, bolt a セ thick rubber to the front of the deck hanging down approx. 3 below deck IMG_0776.jpg

I "think" the baffle kit controls the clippings under the mower a bit longer for re chopping and primarily controlling better discharge of chopped up grass instead of clumps. :2cents:

This is how my new RC72R-F30 (70050-94572 deck shell only) replacement RD deck from Messick's looks like:

(I have since added the missing two rear middle anti-scalp rollers)

The old RD deck shell was worn from having being operated too close to the ground by the previous owner, but it's still repairable and I will eventually repair it and see if there is a demand for it?

All my Cushman decks are RD (three on the one mc) and I have a 60" RD for my Steiner. I have found the cut quality better on the RD decks. A Steiner dealer told me that you have to keep the grass short for the RD deck, but I have not found that to be the case. There is however no possibility of a collection system if that is what you want.

I just did some rough cut work with my 72" SD Steiner Deck and it was just puking huge gobs of grass. I NEVER have that happen with RD decks. Stuff gets chopped up better. I usually use Gator Blades.

I致e recently been looking at the Kubota ZD1211 and ZD1511 Mower痴. I want Diesel, 72 deck, and rear discharge cause I知 tired of getting filthy as noted in several prior posts.

I tried out both at a dealer almost 100 miles away and both were 60 rear discharge.

I have John Deere Z820A with 60 side discharge. A 72 deck is my preference to cover more area in less time.

The difference in seats on the ZD1211 and ZD 1511 was significant IMHO. I was really impressed with the Air Ride seat on the ZD1511. The adjustable spring seat, on the ZD1211, was better than my John Deere seat but, nothing like the Air Ride seat.

I made a deal with my local dealer on a ZD1511 with 72 rear discharge so they contacted the Kubota Warehouse in Dallas and came up empty. Then they contacted Kubota plant and were advised that no more ZD1511s would be shipping until 都ometime in 2018? They (Kubota) gave no reason why?

My dealer is checking on a couple of units in dealer inventory, in Texas. I told them I will consider but, want to know how long they致e in dealer inventory and how they致e been stored, inside or outside.

These guys sure make you work to spend $20k with them.

I took my L3901 in to Barlows today for service. I told him there was info going around about lack of availability of the ZD1511 and is it true. He said he has some new ones for sale and some ZD1011 and ZD1211s which I saw. I think he said he also had one of the ZD1211 or ZD1011s in a used model. He said Marvin would be glad to deliver any one or all to Texas, just call Steve Barlow. Once you hear his delivered prices you may be disappointed in your Texas dealers or not.:D

Thanks very much. I’ll contact them today. Appreciate the heads up on Barlow’s. Local dealer is disappointing, to say the least.

Will you pm your email address? Dealer just for back to me for a 60RD 1511 and he said it was available in the warehouse for 18.2k. I forgot to have him look for the 72" so that was added in my reply. I'll forward you everything when I get it

I'm now at almost 10 Years with side discharge John Deere Z820A zero turn.

If your mowing with wind blowing from your right ..... you get filthy.

If your mowing around flower beds you can only go one direction to keep from blowing cuttings into FB.

If your mowing deeper grass you get extreme windrows trying to discharge into deep grass on right side.

I'm going rear discharge or not at all.

Listen to this Wise Man :D

I've mowed with RD Mowers since 2001 & wouldn't dare buy a SD for my Application.

SD decks takes WAY TOO LONG to process grass clippings in really thick and / or damp grass.

My ZD1211-72RD cuts up thick grass really fine & gets rid of it w/o choking the Engine down.

I do have to use my big back pack blower EVERY cutting to keep hi temp alarm from sounding but no big deal. JUST DONT USE WATER until AFTER you've blown all the fine clippings from EVERYWHERE.

My bad. Brady responded last Thursday but, his email went to my junk files. We’re now corresponding.

Price he gave me was very good. Now to find a unit.
