I've look at a few 15 year old pickups and everyone has been modded or beat... not a fan of chips and boosting someone else did...

All of my vehicles are pretty much stock when it comes to powertrains...

I had a 03 7.3 F250 that I traded on the Boost. It was an ok truck but got to the point that I was constantly working on it. It was lightly modded but still didn't have the performance of the boost.

It's cheaper to purchase a new truck at 0% instead of purchasing a used truck.
Around here a new GMC 4x4 double can SLE with the max tow and the SLE convinience package prices out at about $42,000. Rated to tow 10,000lbs . A base diesel one ton 3500 double cab 4x4 stickers at $65,000.
I dare say that 98% of towing here would be better off with the $23,000 truck. Btw how much does that diesel have to save of fuel to break even ?

I read all these post and I'm glad I still have my pristine (never sees snow), 97 F350, 7.3 long bed 4wd 4 door that averages 21 highway and will pull stumps. Far as I'm concerned, there is no replacement for displacement.

Don't want a weenie displacement engine for towing. No way.

Last I checked, your old school 7.3 has a turbo too. It would probably require a 10-12 liter N/A engine to do the same. Your logic is thus flawed. LOL

Right now all the heavy duty towing is happening with a 2006 Range Rover...

No problem pulling, plenty of power from the BMW 8 cyl and the 4wd is great.

The two issues are:

The air suspension has already gone out 3 times and the Dealer says it's from trailer towing and tongue weight it limited...

The way the body and hitch come together eliminate use of any Rental Yard trailer with surge brakes like the bigger chipper... extending the hitch is cautioned against because of the leverage factor.

10 years ago my brother didn't own the ranch and the Rover was for commuting to the office and back country recreation... I'm more likely to see the Rover with a trailer attached than not...

We have several trailers with California rated 9,999 pounds even though they have 12k axles and would be 12k rated elsewhere...

So a capable tow vehicle with 4wd and room for the entire family would fill the bit nicely...

I owned a 2010 F150 with 5.4 & traded it for a 2015 F150 with 5.0 . The MOST important reason that I own a 5.0 engine is to burn AMERICAN made E85. I want America to be fuel independent & this is a huge step in that direction. The second most important reason to have a vehicle with a FFV E85 engine is to actually USE E85. I plan ahead when we travel to burn only E85. It burns cleaner & is better for the enviorment.

I don't want to derail the thread but all the reading I have done on E85 points to that not being true. Many argue that more fuel is burned in the growing, harvesting, producing, the ethanol than it actually yields and the only reason it is economically viable is that government subsidies are propping it up.

The uninformed media has quoted "more fuel is burned in growing, harvesting, producing ethanol than it yields" is simply WRONG. Any correct thought process would start only at the production of the ethanol. But, that is only part of the story also...The ethanol process also produces about 60% in volume of livestock feed in the form of wet distillers grains. A credit would then be given for the energy used in producing the wet distillers grains. In TRUTH the energy used for ethanol production is a small fraction of the energy value of the E85. Also, Ethanol production technologies have been greatly improved, using less energy for production and increasing the output of ethanol per gallon.

So then why does E85 get worse fuel economy and have poorer performance of its so good? Also, why do older vehicles have such a hard time with it?

.
E85 may provide lower MPG than say E30. E30, from my personal experience is about the best MPG in newer vehicles. But there is more to it than that, including keeping the engine inside cleaner & the cleaner air emissions from E85. Older vehicles were not designed for E85. I have run over 100,000 miles on a non FFV burning on average of E30 & it ran great !
