Why does Ford keep confusing me?

Now they have a Maverick that's a pickup truck.
I think that's a bit of a stretch. It's a 4 door car with an open trunk. It actually is very similar to the original Maverick.
I hope to pick one up this fall though, if I can get the hybrid. 20K for something which gives 30-40 MPG is right up my alley... especially since it does have that open bed/trunk to through gas cans and/or the wet dog into.

I parked next to a new Maverick whatever they want to call it and actually thought it was some kind of a joke. Reminded me of the Subaru Baja. That model lasted 4 years for a reason.

Sometimes things look nice on paper or what you imagine they could be, but after you spend money on it and have to live with it a couple of years, you realize it's not what you thought it would be.

The Maverick might be good if your wet dog is 10lbs or under, but anything larger and the dog might fall out going around a corner.

To each their own.

Coming back next to our smaller honda, a Maverick was parked next to it.

I was like "what the heck is that".

Looked it over, reminded me of the Subaru Baja, which had a life span of 4 years.

Sometimes things look great on paper, but when you apply them to everyday life, reality sets in.

My '98 Ranger is not to small or to large but the 17-20 mpg is terrible. I could almost justify buying a Maverick Hybrid but I can't justify a car payment at the moment.

That's what I found frustrating about my last Ranger. The 4.0 with 4:10 gears was great, but mileage was terrible. My Colorado can get 24 without much effort, except when I'm going down the interstate. Then it's down to around 18.

I do a lot of short runs, back and forth to the field where my garden and livestock is. The battery would be great for that, and I wouldn't be putting so much wear on my Colorado.

Thanks for explaining the new Maverick. I saw a few photos and they confused me as much as the name.

When it came out the reviews compared it to the Honda Ridgeline. There's one at the dealership about 100 miles from here. Not a hybrid, but I want to look at it anyways to see if the bodystyle is something I can use. By fall my Colorado will be pushing 80K miles, a good time to stop running it every day. If I can keep it out of the winter salt it should last me until I don't need the 4WD so much.

Hopefully never. I hope that Ford is still embarrassed by those vehicles.
You mean Chevrolet. Chevy made the Vega.

A little of topic but car makers give letter designation to the models. Like the original Challenger and Cuda were E bodies. For some reason that came out when Chevy came out with new front drive Citations. They were X bodies. I liked asking people why they were called X bodies. The usual answer was the frame was in the shape of an X.

<snip> Never knew Ford made a pickup called the Edge.
To me, my Ford Edge looks just like the Splash edition of the Ranger pickup. I see that some of the current used car ads list them as the Ford Ranger Edge. The decal on the side doesn't say Splash it says Edge. Mine is a 2001 model.
