Why Doesn't Anything Arrive Perfect Anymore?

I have a general question. Since we rarely experience the kinds of problems you all have reported I am wondering if you lived in a right to work state or one where the unions have a lock. Texas is a right to work state and generally the employees are more courteous and helpful. Some times I come upon one who is not and from their accent I suspect that they are transplants from the northest.

There seems to be two different philosophies:

Here it is generally "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

Elsewhere it seems to be " do unto others before they can do unto you"

LOL

I see that you live in Brazos County Texas... where I worked on building a very nice power plant several years ago. I know that area well... and all I can say is that you folks live in a very different world than up here. I have a theory that many of the problems we have with UPS (in particular) are a very locally-based phenomena. If service down there was as bad as it is up here, you'd simply shoot the dudes and the problem would be instantly fixed. Up here in Taxachusetts, that particular option is somewhat more problematic.

Seems to me we are only hearing of the bad regarding UPS. UPS handles millions of packages daily and the vast majority arrive in perfect shape. Personally I get many UPS packages over the course of a year and have not had a damaged item in years.

Andy

Not to be argumentative, but this thread is excellent proof of the problems. Not 48 hours have elapsed since the thread began, and there are already 51 posts and nearly 900 views. While we know TBN is large, it's doesn't cover the world's population yet, but only a small percentage.

So yeah, it seems like there are huge problems out there and not just from one source, but many.

It's just plain old, garden-variety apathy, and it's getting worse every time the sun rises and sets.

Unfortunately for us all, you are so correct.:(

Read all of these postings make me feel truly blessed...

My UPS Driver puts thing on my porch as does my USPS route driver...Nothing broken...(KNOCK on the Formica...:D )...except 6 chairs from Indonesia...that were traced back to Green Wood...6 delivery loops before they solved the problem of why they we breaking...My UPS driver had to handle 6 chairs * 6 deliverys + 5 pickups...I got to know him very well...:D

The only delivery service that is even slightly sketchy FedEx...has let me stop by at the end of shift to pickup SIGNATURE REQUIRED items at their Depot...

If its raining they grab the tarp on the porch and cover the boxes...I am not making this up...:D

Maybe its something in our water up here...

Oh yeah...we are a "work at will" state...

And with all of the above statements...NO ONE should move here because our weather is so miserable...:D

So just how is one supposed to note damage since in my case they just drop the stuff at the door and ring the doorbell and run;) The guy is back in the truck and gone usually by the time I get to the door:cool:

I still think they do a great job compared to the others...I get really torqued when a shipper uses the USPS...now they are bad. At least UPS lets you track it along the way- I've had priority mail packages take 8 days to go 500 miles. Between the wife's hobbies and mine we probably average 2 to 3 packages a week.
I perfect I find plenty of stuff in stores not perfect either...I usually won't buy something that appears to have been returned unless I really, really need it and inspect it in store before buying....[/QUOTE
Interesting poste. I work for USPS and I see the care that goes into getting packages where they belong undamaged. I would be the first to admit that the UPS tracking system is second to none. I wish we would be half as good as tracking our packages. However I find that my USPS packages arrive at my house not my neigbors or whoever. I also can get packages any day of the week except sunday. UPS does not deliver on sunday and depending on where you live only on certain days of the week when they schedule shipments to your area. I also believe that our rates are cheaper than UPS. Remember this when you are spending your valuable dollars. USPS comes to your house 6 days a week except for national holidays. UPS comes to your house when it is profitable for them to do so.

As I said in my previous post I work for USPS so if at all possible I support the hand that feeds me and get items sent through the USPS. Sometimes that is not possible. I have had good luck with items shipped by both UPS and Fedex. As I said earlier I am in toal envy of the UPS tracking system. USPS has the capability to do the same thing we just do it very badly. I have complained to the correct people that I have something shipped USPS I see where it was originally shipped then the next time I see something in the tracking info I have already got it at my house. With UPS you see every stop on the way both coming into the city and leaving. The problem I have with UPS and fedex have been very well discussed here. Leaving packages at another address and marking them as delivered. I have a package now that FEDEX just did that way. I am going to call them tomorrow and tell them it is at my neighbors house and they need to come get it and deliver it to me. The driver just dropped it off at a nearby house because they knew it would get where it was going. I know FEDEX knows where my house is. I had my old geo tracker and my brand new porsche in my driveway one time. They put a box in the tracker because it was unlocked and then glued a delivery notice to the trunk lid of the porsche. I raised so much hades that the driver and his boss came out to apologize. I also have had the USPS rural carrier put packages in plastic bags hanging on my mailbox. That is not an acceptable means of delivery to me I asked the postmaster to have all packages held at the Post Office for me to pick up. I dont have to worry about the safety of the package that way. If a carrier cannot deliver a package they leave you a pickup notice and then you cannot get the package until they have completed their route and taken the package back to the post office. If they keep the package their you can go to the post office immediately after recieving the notice and get it.

If you have ebay problems they usually have an policy to give you your money back on items that are not as advertised. I would email a claim on your tires.

In my line of work, I get lots of laboratory gla$$ware shipped to me.

UPS is pretty good about stuff, while USPS has an intact to break ratio of about 4:1.

Most expensive thing USPS ever broke was a special solvent recycling stillhead that costs about $400 new... I paid for insurance, and dumbarse seller didn't put it on, so he ended up eating the cost.

I try to ship all my expensive glass UPS. I also remind sellers of how to properly ship glassware. I find that it helps to mark the packages with fragile stickers and mark "top load only" on the outside of the boxes.

That reminds me- came home one day to find a USPS package left on the HOOD of our BRAND NEW Honda Pilot...they are dang lucky I couldn't find any scuff marks or there would have been hades to pay! Apparently the mail lady just chucked it out her car window after pulling up to our Pilot:mad:

Ebay helpful? PULEEESE...they are a royal pain to deal with on ANY claim or dispute, worse than worthless. Have had two problems with Ebay purchases and they never resolved either one. You want canned BS excuses just try them. I no longer buy anything on Ebay unless I'm willing to lose all my money on it taking a chance- which means NO large purchases and dang few small ones anymore.
