In one of my previous posts I mentioned that there was a large difference between what I paid for my montana and a price quote I got from JD. I recieved some replies that were not sure I had my figures correct. From my readinds on TBN there is a huge variation on prices depending on where you live, what brands you are looking at etc. I personally have no experience with owning a JD so I do not know anything from personal experience about their quality or their reliability. Since they have been in buisness for a long time I am sure their quality and reliability are as good as any other tractor made. I believe there are several people on this forum who do not make a living from the use of their tractor. I am one of these people. If my tractor was down for a while and needed parts it would be inconvenient but would not be a problem in the grocery buying department. In my case it was worth my while to spend less money for a lesser known tractor. So far it has worked well and I am very happy with it. I bought my montana around 7 months ago and I know they have had a price increase since then so I dont know how much they are now. I am bringing this up because i saw the following post someone made about priceing a john deere. The model they are priceing is a 48 horse. I bought a 49 horse montana 4 wheel drive with dual remotes, Front end loader, Cab with air.
and R-4 tires ( i hope i got the tire type right.) I paid 23,500 for my montana this is what a poster said he had quoted for a JD The only point I am trying to make here is that if you are new to buying tractors and are looking at buying a new tractor then you might want to sit down and identify your needs. Identify how much you are going to depend on your tractor and then look at the various models and their priceing. One important thing to remember is that I am sure a JD in 5 years is going to be worth more than my Montana. I could be wrong but I dont imagine the Montana having the resale value of the JD. I did not buy mine knowing I would be selling it in a few years so that did not matter to me. Here is the posting about the JD I was talkin about :
HI All,
I am so glad I found this web site and am looking for a little advise
I am in the market for my first tractor to use on my 80 acres of hunting property. Mainly for food plots, and to clean the woods after it is select cut next winter.
Orginaly I was looking at the Mahinda 6000 , but back away as the closes dealer is over 2 hours away plus it may be more tractor than I need.
I have 5 JD dealers within 25 miles of me and so far have contact one and have the following quote.
4320 tractor with ehydro, imatch hitch, dual mide cv and R1 tires open station with standars seat
$23368.00 after 10% cash discount and includes freight and set up($800)
JD 400cx cp loader
$4689.00 after 10% cash discount and includes freight and set up($420)
JD 673 74in tiller
$2931 after 10% cash discount and includes freight and set up ($250)
JD MX6 Rotary cutter
$2298 after 10% cash discount and includes fright and set up ($167)
$33,287 total
Price includes delivery to my land (all dealers within 25 miles)
