Why is kerosene so expensive?

Kero and the diesel fuels are in the distillate family and kerosene is more refined than the diesels fuels/heating oils etc.. jet fuel is an ever more refined kerosene

Now that ULSD is reguired Im not sure how much that decreases the price difference between kero and diesel.. Here in VA on road fuels have state/fed road taxes and off road fuels have 5% sales tax.. I thought (though not sure) that the kero pump price included the sales tax..

I can go to the local airport and get jet fuel for less than you pay for Kero.

I use #2 off road and mix a gallon of straight gas in the heater. sure reduces the smell and the taste in your mouth. Heats just fine. also clean your torpedo every now and then.

Well I burned biodiesel from a local Liberty gas station in Winchester VA in a Dietz Kerosene Lantern all day yesterday, it worked perfectly. Perhaps slightly yellower than K1, but very nice. Looks like one tank will run the tractor and work in kerosene heaters and lamps!

And I think it's at least 50 cents cheaper/gallon.

i got sticker shock when filled the kero can two weeks ago. in kansas, paid 4.60/gallon after taxes. in missouri, paid 3.50/gallon after taxes!

i'm assuming they are selling stock they bought when the price was very high in early Fall. kerosene doesn't have the turnover of other fuel products - especially in the warmer months - so they could easily have 6 month old product in their tanks.

i'm hoping it comes down in line with everything else over the next few months, even though we only use it for emergency heating...
